Been Gone For A Long Time

Hello Everyone,

I have officially been out of Online racing since the TEN years. I had
played some online since then but nothing serious. Back in those day's I ran
in OSCAR Firebrand Division and TPTCC. I have kinda been following the
iRacing developements and have kinda given rFactor a look over but nothing
of serious note. Right now I have no racing games at all on my computer and
my wheel is up in the attic gathering dust. I was wondering if some of the
old school folks would mind giving me an update on where Sim Racing as we
knew it is heading or the current state of it. I would really like to look
at getting back into it on a regular basis.

Offline, there are two great new sims.  GTR (early 2000s GT cars) and
GTL (60s-70s GT cars).  Highest quality physics, plenty of
racers/modders, but online has been slow.  GTRs online code was not
great.  GTR2 is imminent, and may change things.  Google "GTR2 demo",
download, and see for yourself for free.  You'll need to dust off that
wheel.  Maybe get a new one, Force Feedback is getting really good.

Besides rF, GTR and GTL, I can also mention:

-Live for Speed (LFS): various categories of cars on fantasy tracks, very
good online
-Richard Burns Rally: the best rally simulator, it's also possible to
download several addons and online utilities (RBR_online, RBRNet)

Well, I watched the other guys reply, and since you too are a former TEN
days driver I just cant see not touching on to the fact that Nascar Racing
2003 (papy of course) was the last as you may well know.  But there were a
lot of quality mods for online league play (leagues more =NROS & ten.)  so
you have a plethora of "Nascar type & class" mods from Craftsman trucks, to
1970's cars mod, Aero 88 & aero88 cup{technically not much changes physics
wise}, to a pair of mods depicting the 5 speed road racers in Corvettes and
Mustangs & vipers...

Plus GPL (another papy sim you might not have been around to try) was the
Formula 1 of 1967 wingless cars.  now it had a huge cult following that has
updated 89-93 % of that game to near todays standards...

I wont bag on other, as I have on my PC rightnow, rFactor, GTLegends, GTR,
GTR2 Demo, plus about 4 gig of NR03 stuff, I had Richard Burns rally too,
but recent mods to my system had me remove it for now.

One thing, IMHO Biggest problem is, computing horsepower and a good wheel,
that you feel works, if it has Force feedback or not, is your call.  but
there is not the reasonable quality 100-150 dollars (US) wheel out there.
some like the Logitech Driving Pro, but I still have NOT found anything that
will replace my old Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback version2.  But even
if you find one like I have, something in Service pack 2 for XP ruins the
install process for it, it would seem.  I have XP and I have to update it
after I install the wheel so, so far so good for me and others...

good luck picking that sim,

possibilites to it, because it already has a half dozen "mods" including
Nascar.

Stay the hell away from EA's Nascar, IMHO.

later, sting32 & plowboy on any servers...
