We need an easy to use app or piece of hardware that would allow us to
switch from one type of control to another seamlessly. An example would
be when driving gpl with the pedals in seperate mode and then switch to
n2 which requires pedals in combined mode.
This requires deselecting one controller setup then rebooting then
selecting a different controller setup. Then in many cases you will have
to recalibrate or even reconfigure your contoller in the sim! Geez! you
should be able to simply select a different controller and start the
other sim! Not to mention joysticks and gamepads too! You would think
for the thousands of dollars we spend on "state of the art" machines
somebody would figure this out?  Of course thinking Bill Gates gives a
shit is out of the question.
JM - maybe I drive to many different sims.......

I have a $20.00 data switch box for 15 pin (joystick) style plugs that can
select up to four devices. You can also buy a "Joyswitch" for about $40.00 .
I switch from my joystick to game pad or steering controller without
rebooting. Have been doing it for a few years with SB 32 and now SBL sound
card with no problems. The only hassle is if I have to select a different
controller in W95/8's lame controller properties box. The I have home built
steering/pedal controllers with a toggle switch to go from dual axis pedals
to single axis pedals. It is fairly simple wiring, you just need the wires
for two axis going to the pedals.

You dont need to have the pedals in combimed mode for N2, I have mine in
separate, and they work just fine.

The software for the Logitech Wingman Formula wheels lets you swap pedal axis
configurations on the fly, without rebooting.  Supposedly, the next version of
their Profiler software will include this as part of each game's profile and do
it automatically when you start the game from the profiler, just as it
currently does for button and keystroke mapping.  That won't help with
wheel/joystick changes, but it is convenient for different driving games.

Microsfot does exactly that with their sidewinder range - it detects the
controller you have plugged in automatically and you then select whichever
profile you want to use. Profiles have specific configs saved in them.

N2 does not require pedals to be combined.

As far as I know, there is no need to reboot (unless you are installing
a brand new device).  For Win95, if you use Thrustmaster's ProPanel
applet there isn't even the need to recalibrate.  However, you will need
to select a new device as ID #1.

Get "QuickJoy" from CH (www.chproducts.com). It's made for their joystick
switching device, but it works on its own. I use it with my joyswitch
(www.joyswitch.com) and its great!

Reboot? Recalibrate? I use a standard 15 pin extension cable from the
controller port to the front of my desk and change controllers whenever i
wish. The Thrustmaster Pro Panel or the Gravis Control Panel both allow
multiple control settings to be saved for a virtually limitless number of
controllers at one time. I even thought that Microsoft's panel did this
too,  but never tried it.
