At the risk of being flamed for not having anything else worthwhile to post
here...

1)
Ever notice how the Murasama logo looks a lot like Speed Racer's?
Coincidence? (I think not)  This cries for someone to hack a fix to change
it and "Coventry" to Honda and Cooper, respectively.

2)
But seriously...years ago I was planning to attend the Bertil Roos driving
school at Pocono (Long Pond, PA - USA), and was perusing his literature,
which goes heavily into "ocular driving,"  i.e., how if you constantly keep
your EYES where you want your car to go, you'll be quicker and more
consistent.  This as opposed to putting more emphasis on where you are at
the moment.  Kind of weird, isn't it?

Well, the minute I did this in GPL I managed a 1:07:23 and then proceeded to
post consistent low 1:07s in the Lotus (GP car, default setup, 10Gal. on the
tank, at the Glen).  OK, it may not be the absolute GPL record, but consider
that I was doing high 1:08s to low 1:09s until then.

Just another testimony to the realism of GPL, that yet another real-life
concept yields dividends.

3)
On a not so serious note...there should be a handicap for GPL players who
are married.  Spouses have an incredible knack for smelling when you are in
the middle of a hot lap, and come talk to you.  Maybe we married players
should form an on-line league, where we'd drive into trees for no apparent
reason, except we'd all know what happened...

My aplogies for the abuse of bandwidth, but I just love this sim!

I too have that problem - not married, but i still live at home
at the moment, and my mother has mastered that exact art of
interrupting the best lap of any given session. :)
i guess that's the price i have to pay in order to get cheap
accommodation! :)

LOL

My girlfriend read this and said if we ever "came up for air" (out of our
computer rooms) for half a minute nce in a while, that wouldn't happen.

Yes I noticed!  It's the only reason that I might want to keep it as is when
the inevitable editors come out!

You guys need to quit complaining.  I just turned 1:33 at Monza with my wife on
the phone!  And I was NOT using the speakerphone, I had the handset cradled on
my shoulder - she never even knew I was racing!  'Course, it helps to be able to
race at the office ("Sorry honey, gotta work late again tonight")! :^)

Hey, I've noticed that too - and from responses I've seen here I'm
thinking this must be a genetic thing in women. Not enough research
has been done in this field, but let me be the first to offer myself
up for the good of sim-racing. to be strapped in a chair playing GPL
and have a bevy of women (supermodels, ***s, you know) come in
and say things, massage my neck, take their cloth...eh, you get the
idea. I could probably give myself to the project for, say, a couple
of years to see it through to a conclusion....

Cheers!

Haha!  That reminds me of when the Papyrus Indy 500 game  first came
out.   I had a job where I had to come in at 4AM on Fridays to run
backups on the Unix mini, changing tapes every 45 minutes.    You can
guess how I spent the month of May.

Weee!  I did a 1:33.03 at Monza in my Ferrari while my wife was
arranging Disney stuffed characters on top of my monitor and saying
something (who knows what!)   I was quite proud of my concentration!

I just can't figure out how you exlain to your wife why you take your
racing wheel with you to work in the morning.  Or did you somehow
convince your boss that "this monthly report really cannot be done
without a 3D card, weel and pedals"???

I just convinced my boss I could write a racing sim.  Now I actually have to
do it.  Oh well <SIGH>, we all have our crosses to bear!

I was that close to add "I guess I have to do a prototype first" to my previous
post, spooky isn't it :o)?
