End It All ??

End It All ??

by TireSpin4 » Sat, 22 Feb 2003 22:41:51

Good Day,

I have a utility for shutting down TSR programs that take up additional
memory called End It All. The utility works fine with one exception. When I
go to shut down my system after using the program it hangs. I have to
re-boot and shut down windows again in order to have shut down properly.
Does anybody know what could be causing this problem? Or does anybody know
of another utility like End It All and if so where can I find it?

Thanks

End It All ??

Sorry to jump onto this thread, but FWIW I have the exact same problem.
Although sometimes, I can still do a clean shutdown.  This is with EndIt All,
not EndItAll2 (which is a bloated piece of code, if you ask me....)  This is
with Win98SE.

If you guys do a ctrl-atl-del and shut down everything manually that end it
all shuts down, does the system still hang?  I doubt it would be end it all
causing the problem....You probably have it shutting off something that you
computer needs for a hangless shutdown.

Tim,

You are correct, I have tried to allow several TSR programs to run as an
experiment to hopefully stumble across the one Windows 98 SE needs to shut
down correctly. Thus far I have still had no success. I just thought that
maybe someone else out there had a quick fix for this problem? I will
continue to test my theory to see which missing TSR is causing the hang.

Thanks for the response.

End It All ??

I like Startup Manager 1.5.

It can be downloaded here:

m

TSRs load at startup. It Sounds to me like you are "shutting down" TSR's
after they have already loaded on bootup. Sometimes, when you shut down TSRs
in this manner, they still linger around because they were not really menat
to be shut down manually. It is best to terminate them before they load on
bootup.

Another way to do this is to go Start>Run> and type MSCONFIG. Go to the
Startup tab. You can check or uncheck the TSRs here too.

I prefer to use Startup Manager though because that way you keep a "Normal
Startup" and you are not messing with MSCONFIG and creating a "Selective
Startup".

With Startup Manager 1.5, you can disable these TSR's and then they will not
even show in MSCONFIG. Also, you can easily delete an entry with Startup
Manager if it is not needed and do away with it completely!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Bill,

That is an awesome website. They appear to have answer for everything there.
I have downloaded SM 1.5 and we will see if that works for me. I have also
checked out the MS knowledge base that ctrlaltdelete35 had suggested and it
too had some very informative points. Thanks for your reply's.
