I decided to join. Don't know if I should have...

I seem to be 746th   (in "Top rankings") in F1 and 746th in F3.
(Or 753rd and 789th, if I look "Your ranking")

My handicaps are 277.27 (F1) and 530.44 (F3).
There seems to be room for developement...    ;-)

Most of your times aren't too bad. I found that the Nurburgring time
makes an enormous difference though. I had a handicap of 150+ for a
while until I started to learn the ring. My pb there dropped from 10.32
to 9.00.56 on 1 week. Hence my rank is now +55.16. Much more respectable :)

No sweat.
If we cannot beat them in speed, we can beat them in ... errr... hmmm.....
;-)

No really. Your times are just about the same as mine when I first joined
the Rank.
But don't tell me,that you too use only keyboard to drive those times!

btw.
Why is it so difficult to get one lousy ISDN card when you would like to use
it just for fun and not for work...

Yep, the heavy weighting of the Ring can really do wonders/damage to your
ranking.  Some of my other times are pretty decent but my abysmal Ring times
are dragging me WAY down the list. :-|

Have you tried "Ringtrainer"? It's a useful util that lets you practise
the Ring by starting on different sections of the track. The prog is in
German, but it's all fairly obvious. Get it here:

Hey Arto,

I had a look at your times and as the former title holder of slowest
driver on GPLRank, you're looking pretty good (I wish I could do Monaco
that fast...), but the 'Ring time is dragging you down the list. I'll
give you advice I was given...abandon all other tracks for a while and
drive the 'Ring until you've taken at least a minute (or two!) off your
time there. That should send you soaring up the list.

You should be able to make some good progress for the next little while
as all the old hands drive Dave's new Imola track and their handicaps
stop falling for a while...8^)...BTW, thanks,
Dave, big time!

Thanks!

Well, that seems to be a very good advice! I made only 3 laps with
Ferrari (Alison's setup), and I could shave my former 11:09.74 to
11:01.86! And in that lap I only twice went out of the track... :)
On the other hand, I was very careful not to drive too fast, when I
did not know, what there will be after the next corner... There seems
to be some room for making it still better...  ;-)

Nearly 8 seconds is - I guess - quite much in my ranking, too... And
by only 3 more laps...

I'll still try some more laps before sending my new player.ini, though...
And there are also a couple of tracks I never really fell in love:
With a proper attitude I might get a few seconds from Rouen and Mexico, too?

This GPLRank seems to be quite an ***ive piece of software!  ;-/

The only problem to me seems to be that I would love to drive this great
version of Imola also by myself...

I already thanked Dave in public, but if he happens to read my modest
mail: Again, big thanks to you Dave, fantastic work!

(And by the way, did you ever hear or read that they had a nice track
here in the very center of Helsinki from 1937 to 1963! In the 50's and
in the beginning of 60's they drove F3's, sports cars and also "Formula
Junior". There were also many Englishmen racing there:
 -52: D.W. Powell-Richards
 -53: R. Nuckey
 -54: R. Nuckey, Eric Brandon
 -55: Eric Brandon
-56: Eric Brandon, Arthur Owen, Lord Louth
-57: David Latchford, Arthur Owen, Michael W. Head
-58: David R. Piper, Ivor Bueb
-59: David R. Piper, Graham Whitehead
-60: Graham Whitehead, Jimmy Blumer, Arthur Owen, John Whitmore
-61: Douglas Graham, David Hitches, Ronald Hodgson, Ian
      Harrison-Hansley, Bill McCowen
-62: David Hitches, Ian Raby Sr., Ian Raby Jr.,
-63: David Hitches, Klaas Twisk, David Cole

The streets of the track still exist, and there are lots of
photograpshs from the period of racing... The name of the track
was "Elaintarha", "The Zoo".  The 3dr letter "a" should have 2 dots on top.

The GPL version would be a gem for F3 drivers, a nightmare to F1!
I can guess Dave has many more important projects, but when there
perhaps some day is an "easy-to-use" track editor for GPL, I really
would like to have a re-incarnation of this wonderful track...
)

Well...

hehe...  Sorry but I just have to brag... Ranked 725 with a Handicap of
304.140 with my little F3.  If you are so far down the list, maybe you
should try the Basic trainers(?)  They may not be as fast as an F1 or even
as exciting because you're so much slower then an F1, but at least you can
easily learn a track!  and a side benefit would be soaring up the rankings
list ;-)
