It's sometimes funny how to get fast laps...

Hi gpl'ers out there!

Last night I participated on an onlinerace hosted by a friend of mine.
We were four pilots altogether at Monza with no ai-drivers. After the
training I was second on the grid with an 1:30.low, the guy on the pole
had an 1:29.high. The race started and the polesitter couldn't get off,
he just stood there with smoking tires. So, at the Curva Grande, I was
the first. Race continued well for the next twelve laps, but then in the
middle of the thir***th (no wonder...;-), my connection to the server
suddenly broke for some tenths of a second. I still was in the race, but
when I drove out of Parabolica, there where just two letters shown to
me, you might guess what: DQ! Shit! So I hit ESC and watched my pals
fighting out the rest. But the big surprise for me came up, as I saw who
had driven the fastest lap. It was me, with an 1:29.81!. And I swear: Up
to that point, I had never had an 1:29! So, this day even had a happy
end for me!

Sorry for my bad english, but I had to tell you!

Sometimes big connection "clock smashes" can actually result in a bogus lap
time, mainly if your car sort of "leaps forward" on the track. Also, you can
sometimes "leap backwards" and this is what can cause a DQ. I turned a #1
qualifying time in a race once during a lap that had a couple of big
smashes, but I'm pretty sure that I didn't do that time in reality.

Best thing is to time the replayed lap with a stop watch and check your time. A
high 1:29 following low 1:30s doesn't actually seem surprising. A high 1:28
would say "clock smash" to me but not high 1:29.
Cheers,
Paul

Hi!

No, I use Netscape Messenger 4.5. Is there something wrong with the message?

Hi Doug!

I'm sure that I drove the time for real, because it was the sixth lap in the
race and before that smash happened there weren't any problems with the
connection.
I was just wondering that I drove this lap in an onlinerace. You know, I usually
spend one or two hours every day on hotlapping, mainly in Monza, and I never
dropped below the magic 1:30 barrier. And then it "just happens" in a race,
without any problems. That's what I mentioned to be funny ;-)

Greetings

Sofar I've set all my PB's online. Must be the extra adrenalin, can't
really get focussed enough to repeat them offline. So, I'll just have
to stick to online racing :).

Well, I set my record lap at Monza last night during an offline race against
the AI (I won it by over a second BTW)  1:29.64, beat my best by .01 seconds!

You can send via Netscape via Notes 5. Just seemed to look a bit different
on my screen.
