Announcement: Night Owls series

by Crankst » Wed, 15 May 1996 04:00:00

This is an announcement to all online pilots who may be interested in
joining the Night Owls series.

The purpose of the Night Owls series is to offer organized races later
in the evening than most other series.  The Night Owls chat room would
open around 10:30pm on the night of the race, with the practice
session beginning at 10:45pm.  Qualifying commences at 11:00pm, the
time at which many of us get huge rate discounts, and when we should
by all accounts be thinking of hitting the sack, not the track.  But
hey, you have to establish your priorities... ;>

The Night Owls series won't be limited to a particular skill level
range.  There are plenty of low rated drivers that run safely but
haven't had much luck surviving the derbies that pick up races often
devolve to.  Conversely, there are many inflated 7-8 rated drivers
who've thrived on the large fields that Dega attracts.  Therefore the
Night Owls series will be open to all skill levels.  Drivers who prove
unsafe will be barred from the series.  Two bonehead moves and you're
out.

Races will vary in length, depending on the mood of those who show up
for the race.  I'd like to keep it within 10%-25% distances.  Damage,
pace and yellows all on.

So, if this sort of series seems attractive to you, send me an email
with your online name and a description of your experience on Hawaii
(skill level won't be considered a factor).  Also provide what nights
you prefer to run races on (Thursday to Saturday are not available),
race lengths and preferred courses (or courses you want to avoid).

Note that you MUST have an online name that is some form of your real
name (eg.: JohnS or JSmith rather than Rustbucket, Punter, or what
have you).  I want real drivers participating in these races, not
people who prefer to hide behind monickers.

I'll take the first dozen or so responses for the first race, assuming
there's that much interest.  I'd like to keep the first race
manageable and increase the field slowly with each race.  I'll email
each of you who respond with series guidelines, and race details
of the first race for the first dozen or so who respond.

Contact me at the email address below.

Thanks,

Bill.
