SIERRA.COM MOTD: "Intentional wrecking of other drivers will not be tolerated"

by Gerald Moo » Fri, 03 Aug 2001 22:19:12

I logged in last night to get my fix, and on the MOTD, it read
"Intentional wrecking of other drivers will not be tolerated"  I cant
remember the rest of the message verabatim, but it mentioned that the
penalty could result in the wrecker being banned from Sierra.com.

No mention of enforcement, how wreckers are identified, or anything
else.  Anyone else see this or know anything about it?  Is Sierra just
stroking us or is there some weight behind this?

Papy often have someone lurking. But I've heard stories about people
doing honest mistakes are beeing temporarily banned, but i'm sure
issues with that can be solved with e-mails.

I actually start to appreciate the horrid serial-number must have the
cd in the drive system. Wreckers get their serial-number banned and
have to buy another copy to race online.

I find this funny. If I worked for Sierra I could now go to my boss
with an excellent money making scheme. :-)

Perhaps Sierra are just about to relaunch GPL in a special "Careless
driver" edition ?? Complete with additional hand gestures.:-)

(please don't get mad at me - I'm only joking)

Only online through Sierra.  Can't you still run if you know the IP of the host
machine?

It's another case of the users not knowing anything...

Just save the replay and talk to a Papy guy there if there is any, or send

I should think so. But i would guess the wrecker hobby does not
include searching for IP-adresses.

You cannot join a server that is hosting on Sierra via direct-ip.  We
tried it :)

Jason.

Any N4 server that shows up on WON/Sierra cannot be joined by IP address
because that would circumvent any rating and muzzle restrictions
specified by the server (N4 doesn't report the skill of the driver -
this is maintained on the Sierra serverm, and muzzle only mean something
when someone is using their Sierra user ID to join a server - the sierra
user ID is not used when joining by IP).
