(for reference,  celery400 slot 1, BH6, 64 meg pc100, scsi2 hd, and cdrom.
Aureal vortex(1) snd, and cheapo lynksys 100tx net card.)

Well, it has been a troubling last 5 days, 1st I flashed my BH6's bios and
attempted to overclock that cpu up to 500 (498mhz).  as luck would have it,
I can only overclock up to 450...

Well, now my new Hercules Prophet 2 MX (32 meg) card is here.  so I
uninstall the 2 PCI videocards (hercules thriller 4meg & Monster2 12meg),
from windows, followed by removing them from the tower.  I then insert the
new card into the AGP slot, power it on and cant wait for the new card to
ask for it's drivers disk.  :)

to my shegrin, upon installing the drivers from cd, then updating them from
the HERCULES website, I launch the dreaded video settings icon in nascar4's
startmenu, and set it to opengl, 800x600 x 16,  that was last night, around
midnight, and I waited 15 minutes and gave up and went to bed, fearing this
was an omen....
got home next day for lunch, 3d settings are set, launch'd the game...  Now
the cars and stuff look much nicer even with the same settings I had setup
with the voodoo2, but hey I am getting 34 fps, vs 18fps.  But I have this
annoying "white out- FLASHING going on all the time now....

WHAT THE HECK?

So I went back to work, (not late fortunately) came home that evening
formatted the drives, reinstalled winders'98 (non SE, 'cause I cant find my
disk) install the drivers for everything I had before, redownloaded the new
drivers for everything (except the linksys) and I still have this white
flashes (whole screen) when driving, as if there is some kind of confict or
something?  the images on the screen white out, but dont really stutter or
jerk.
Im pretty positive I got the cards in slots so they arent sharing IRQ's
(except the lynksys net card) is sharing with the pci STEERING thing.  I
install N4 again, click on the icon, set the graphics to OPENGL,
1024x768x16.
Then I waited...
waited...
and waited....   in fact I had to go back to work, and I have to hope it
finishes up before I get home today?  IS THIS NORMAL????

What am I not doing right?  did I miss a step somewhere about installing
GeForce cards, and running Nascar4?  Luckily I dont lose anything on this
*** computer when I format and stuff, I dont even check my mail on it
right now.  the next step is another 64 meg ram, maybe more.  then if I can
afford it, in a month or 2 a p3 800.

I think you need to disable the V-Sync or Vertical Sync option in the d3d
settings.  Can anyone tell him how?

If you are overclocking your CPU to 450 (from what I dont know) you are also
overclocking the AGP bus speed from the standard 66mhz to whatever. I have
noticed with my newly aquired GeForce2, that it will have the white flashing
if the AGP bus is clocked beyond 70mhz. So, un-overclock your system and see
if it still does it.

The Gods of Usenet tell me that on Fri, 2 Mar 2001 16:28:49 -0600,

I get the white flashes too, but not all the time, or maybe I just
don't notice them when I'm really into the game.  I did shut of the
v-sync for openGL, and that may have stoped it, I honestly can't
remember if I noticed any of the flashes when I played tonight.
I'm running the Hercules MX II with latest drivers as well.

these flashes are persistant, like it is trying to show a screen that is in
the background?  the screen is ok on laod up, and shows intro just great, it
is in the shots at the track even if you puase the time to goto the garage,
and while driving only.  the garage screens dont flash.

sorry about the typo's using wife keyboard/computer, and it is awkward as
hell.

I am not overclocking at the moment, using 400x66mhz stock setting...
on bios on boot scsi, video, sound, all have their own irq...

Im not using Direct x as vidoe setting, using opengl....

trying to think of anything I forgot to mention, oh yeah I have a
Thrustmaster ACM card, wich requires me to disable the Vortex gameport and
midi...  I have had to do this for 3 years now and Im used to getting it set
up, and I have to say it is set up correctly, and I had no trouble with it
before....

so I will try the direct x and see what it does, but if I have to use Direct
x then Im pretty pissed paying out the nose ALA--$140 for an OPEN GL card
that doesnt operate correctly, and figure I need to send it back?

I guess I need to borrow someone's 4x4 evolution and see if the card works
ok in it?  PS I hate that game...

Disable triplebuffering and see if that eliminates it.
