t2 bites the dust

Well, it finally happened. After almost four years of driving my a*s off, the
gas pedal on my T2 fell limp to the floor -- just as I was about to enter a
high-speed corner. (I did get off a little easier than Michael S. -- just a
*** crash and a DNF).

Anybody know the remedy for such a problem. Or do I just buy a new pedals/wheel
set?

Thanks.

Yes, I ran into this problem, too. The spring of the gas pedal broke, and it
kept the pedal at half throttle... But I had another problem with the wheel:
Everytime I wanted to calibrate it in Windows, it didn't work right. I
turned the wheel to the right...everything OK...I turned the wheel to the
left as far as it went, and suddenly, when turning left again, it went only
half the way (not the wheel, but in the calibrating screen). And when
playing a racing game, it went only half the way to the left, but the full
way to the right....
I calibrated it a thousand times, but it hardly ever worked.... Do you know
what I could have done wrong?

Thanks

Sounds like you need a new steering pot.

Keith.

You have to clean your pots!

Get some contact cleaner from Radio Shack, then unscrew/open up your T2's
steering box, and you'll find that the steering shaft/column connects at the
end in a silver "pot" which is connected via wires to the joystick port...

Use the contact cleaner on this silver cylinder then move the wheel around a
few times, back and forth, then put it all back together again, and give it
a try!

After nearly 4 years, mine started doing the same thing, in the past 6
months I have cleaned it out twice, and it's made all the difference in the
world!

BTW, it's true... Thrustmaster will send you new springs, suction cups, etc
for free!

Just email them!

It sounds like either your steering pot is dirty (or needs replacing) or
that it has turned in it's mount inside the unit.  If it is the latter,
your wheel's pot is no longer centered and you have more play on one
side than the other.  If it's a dirty pot, then the calibration may read
exagerated resistence and can't calibrate properly.

You can clean your pot with some electronic switch cleaner.

You can also open up the unit and see if the mounting for the pot is
loose and needs to be recentered and tightened.

If you cant wait for thrustmaster the pot is a 250k pot available at
Radio Shack and the pedal springs can be replaced with a section of
screen door spring or a piece of coat hanger that has been  wrapped
around a broomstick handle to make a coil.  While you are at it
replace the short bungee cord with a long one having the ends attached
to your puter desk or whatever you have your wheel mounted on.  I know
the cover won't fit back on but you can slot the ends or replace it
with a hunk of sheetmetal banged into shape in the back yard.  Then
cover it with sponsers.  then you can either order a new REAL wheel
from Driving Impressions for 150 bucks or cover your existing wheel
with pipe insulation and electrical tape.  Don't ferget to paint the
wheel spokes Silver.  Then print out the insignia fron your favorite
GPL car and have it laminated in a circle and glue it to the center
hub of your wheel.  Paint the stick shift handle silver while you are
at it.

T2's NEVER DIE!!!
