with its idiotic "copy protection" schemes that require the CD to be in
the harddrive? With 20gig harddrives well under $200, the days are
long past when having to swap CDs to play a game was acceptable. I
recently built a new PC, and a couple of EA's games came bundled with
the video and sound cards. Besides being just arcade games, I couldn't
even install them on my harddrive to play once in a while without
having to get out their CDs. I threw them away, and swore I would
never again pay money for that kind of crap. (If I had half a brain I
would have bought the "value" versions of the cards with no bundled
games.) I had a program that would emulate a CD drive, but that still
required being able to copy the CD contents onto the harddrive. Even
that was thwarted by some kind of *** copy protection ***that
made the CD look like it had read errors.
Are you listening EA? You treat the paying customers like they're
thieves, unless they prove otherwise every single time they want to
launch your game. Yet the pirates just post cracks anyway. So what
are you morons accomplishing? Besides making cranky old farts like me
keep our Mastercards tucked away where they belong? I for one am not
going to go pay for a game that I immediately have to jigger with
cracks. I'll just stick with GPL.
