Need Help Finding A Track

by Tom Pabs » Thu, 15 Jul 2004 03:14:58

Hi Guys...

I thought this would be easy but finding it's not so easy.

The ALMS guys are coming to Infineon this week (most teams are already here,
in fact).

I want to put the ALMS mod on F1C.......and run the Infineon track.  I
thought there was an Infineon track add-on for F1C....but can't find it.  Do
I need to find one for F1-200x or something...and convert?

While I'm here.....how do you add tracks to run in the ALMS mod?  Or can
you?

Randy Pobst will drive me crazy if I don't get this for him.  And Jr. has
told me he's going to try to get up to our shop....so thought it would be
nice to have his vette waiting for him if he wants to give it a go.  Thank
God Boris can't drive the only sim we have operational at the moment....he's
too tall!  LOL....he'd wreck it for sure!  He and Huffaker tried to get into
it two weeks ago.....we had to get the grease guns out to pull them back out
of it!  LOL.....

I bet Dave Henrie knows all this track stuff?  Dave?

Thanks in advance for your help.....

Go to the SCC forum at RaceSim Central and there is a LONG thread on adding
tracks...it's actually fairly easy if you have ever done any of that kind of
stuff.  The Infineon track (ALMS layout) is available here:
www.f1gamers.net/ibf/index.php?showtopic=413

I think this version is all set up for SCC, just unzip into the circuits
folder...

How careless, you seem to have dropped some names...

Load up F1rst2 and host a race with SearsLong.  That will dload the
track and it will be set up for SCC.  Next check out the AIW thread in
the RSDG forum.  There are about a dozen files there that fix pit
problems that
many converted tracks have.  I just tested this a day or so ago so I can
send it to you if you need it...36 cars with very little chaos in the
pits.
The AI cars are running in the ***s at 100%.  I had to back them
down to 88 or 89% to get the Audi's to stay around the 1:24/25 pace.
(which is
what I think the qualifying speeds were last year.)  Unfortunately, the
Dyson Lolas are not up to the pace of the Audi's...I even tried crafting
a
custom setup for them, but still couldn't get them on par with the big
boys.

Now track conversion 101.  From F1c to SCC.

place a dloaded track in the SeasonData\Circuits folder.  Yep the same
one as the F1 tracks.  SCC shares this folder.
Next, copy the file with the .gdb extention and rename it.  Change the
.gdb to .sdb.  Thus with searslong, you'd copy searslong.gdb and then
name the copied file to searslong.sbd.

Next open up this searslong.sbd with any text editor and make sure the
top lines match this.

2002_SearsLong
{
Filter Properties = SCC2001, SCC2002, SCC2003

you can add other filters for ETCC or PrototypeC but these three
filters will allow SCC to recognize the track.

Warning.  SCC has a very small window for the track menu graphic.  Alot
of previously built tracks have near full screen .bmp files that will
block your view of the various other track icons.  This can be fixed by
either resizing the trackthmb.bmp or replacing it from one of the tracks
already redone by SCC.
Save all that and off you go.

I'd also recomend the newly released 1998 Road Atlanta by RSDG with
day, sunset and night options(the glowing car paint is a trip!)<also
available for dload from F1rst2.  Road America and Mid Ohio.  Sebring and
old Sebring are two others that any ALMS fan should have...Laguna of
course.  Most of these will have jumbled pit lanes and those can be fixed
by the new aiw files I spoke about, which are in the RSDG forum on
RaceSimCentral.

Dave....Kevin,

Thanks you for your help guys, between the two of you I was able to get the
Searslong track installed and working.  But, as I feared after thinking
about "where did this track come from".....and starting in on that work, it
was pretty much a waste of time.  That version of the track must be from the
old SCGT or something, because it's not even close to Sears....past, present
or whatever.  The turns go in the right direction, but other than
that.....it's like driving on another race track or something.  Too bad, but
it was even worth keeping in my track folder, I just deleted it.  But, the
process for putting tracks in the new SCC mod was learned thanks to you
guys, and I really appreciate the information.....especially since I could
have dug around and got this on my own, but you guys took the time to speed
the process up for me, much appreciated.

Each year at ALMS time, I'm reminded how badly we need an accurate and
realistic version of the sportscar course at Infineon.  I'd love to put a
group together that can build tracks in both ISI format and Papyrus format
and finally fix this problem (maybe that would require two track-building
groups)!  I have access to all of the CAD drawings for Infineon (past,
present and future changes) as well as working there every day....so visuals
and photos are a piece of cake to acquire.

Oh well........but thanks again, for your help.

Regards,

Tom

Hi Tony....

Well, taken out of context of why I wrote the post requesting help finding a
sportscar course version of Infineon, it does sound like "name dropping."
Sorry about that, it was unintentional.  Thanks for pointing this out to me.

Regards,

Tom

me.

I didn't want your new found status on RAS getting to you Tom :)

Isn't quoting out of context what usenet was designed for?

Cheers

you might want to approach the RSDG guys and see if you can work with
them.  That would save time in learning the mechanics of ISI track
building.
