Is anyone in the US running F1RC and if so where is a good place to
purchase it.  I have tried F1 2001 which is great until you try and
race other AI cars.  Even though I have only tried the F1RC demo, it
runs sooo smooth and the graphics are top notch.

Thanks in advance...

If you think the AI in F12001 is bad then you are in for a shock if
you do buy F1RC. F1RC has the worst AI of any racing sim in history.
Full stop.

I wasn't talking of the AI behavior, I just meant the graphics slowdown when
AI cars on on screen.  I have heard of the AI behavior problems in F1RC but
understand the it has been patched and improved since the original release.
F1 2001 is unplayable with other cars on the screen unless the graphic
levels are turn way down.  I know my setup could be better (P3 850MHz,
GeForce 2 GTS, 512K ram) but it should run better than it does.  N2 runs
just fine with a full field of cars and looks fantastic.

Bill, I have an 850-PIII, GeF 2 Pro 64, and only 384 MB - I run the game
fine with 12.41 drivers.  You should really try again.  Have you been to
High Gear forums?  We will help you, if you need it...

<snip snip>

with 512K ram, I'm surprised you can load windows.
big swap file huh?

Sorry - just pisstaking.  I agree that f12001 is disappointing
graphically (performance wise) but I'm prepared to put that
down to poor implementation on nvidia hardware/driver combo.

I hope the patch fixes this problem because the game has such
potential.  Half the problem is that the fps are so inconsistant
going from 45fps on one section of the track down to 30fps
in another.

I was surprised at how little improvement came from upgrading
to an Athlon1.4 from a 550e pentium in F12001 (gf2mx400/64mb)
when every other game i own (often more graphically intensive
than f12001) now runs stupidly fast.

I have tried 6.50, 7.58, 12.41, 12.90, 21.83 drivers.  The 6.50 and 7.58
drivers worked the best.  I have tried running in a window, with/without
FRAPS, etc. etc. etc..  Looks and runs great hotlapping.  Starts with other
cars - big hit.  Once the pack strings out, the frame rate picks up again.

Don't think it is worth the trouble...

Thanks for the offer.

No official patch has been released for F1RC, even though Ubisoft lied
and said one would be out last April - must have been April 1st when
they announced that.

Are you running it in windowed mode? On your setup it should run fine
at 800x600res 16bit windowed mode. I get no slowdown at all.

>Hmmm...never even heard of that one.

It was a Nascar game that had potential.  However, under yellow flag conditions
the AI that had pitted would bash into you when they got back on the track.
You'd be following the pace car, and see the AI coming up in your mirror.  They
wouldn't stop, and hit you at full speed, ending your race.  It was so bad that
I would drive on the GRASS to avoid the hit.  They never seemed to hit the
other AI, though...

Heh...that resembles my experience with F1RC.
