Yes, I know this is stupid. Maybe if I wasn't really tired and hadn't just
spent an hour putting together a video CD for a guy at work who wants to
know why a sad bastard like me gets a little misty-eyed about GPL, then
maybe I wouldn't be writing this.

But you know what? The fact there's never going to be a GPL2 *really*
f*cking winds me up!

Yes, I know we've got LFS on the horizon and the distant dream of RL, but
it's not the same *at* *all*.

I shall now be going off to bed to sulk and possibly sleep. I will wake
later, partially refreshed, put the kettle on, then take it off and put on
a shirt instead, and then I'll remember I wrote this... at which point I
will groan out loud and trap my finger in the nearest door as punishment
for being such a whiner.

But right here and now I have the hump. Thanks for listening. Normal
service will be resumed shortly... though maybe only after I've set up a
site selling GPL2 teddies (and matching suspender belt).

The software industry is very fluid. GPL2 will be made one day, might not be
papyrus, might not be called GPL2. Anyway besides the sound engine and a
couple effects. GPL2 would not be anywhere as fullfilling as GPL community
edition is it might actually splinter and kill it like the Papy Nascar
crowd. Man I've got 140 tracks most authentic, drivers faces, a dozen
utility. The fact that the game can be played without the cd means I can
listen to my tunes while I drive. Just shut up and drive you sad bastard .
That's what I loved about these guys back then :)

Summary for those who've actually got something to do at work and can't
afford to spend time trying to piece together the arguments from two forum
threads: some speculation about possibly work progressing on GPL2 and some
name calling.

Yes, and it's also apparent that Mark Beckman has some inside information on
David Kaemmer:

"A man is well advanced with a "GPL2", I am led to believe its 1973 not 72.

He started Papyrus and his initials are DK, but I cant tell you who he is other
than he has been doing it in his own time, more or less as a hobby so there is
no set finish date or even if it will ever be released, although I'm betting it
will be depending on what Racing Legends ends up being all about."

There's always someone who thinks they have 'inside information'. Must be an
ego thing

Glad I did actually! Not for the rumour-mongering and wishful thinking,
but for a link that pointed me at...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

...where I discovered a whole heap of movies I didn't know existed. I
stopped looking for movies after watching Kev Clark's Just A Day
(repeatedly and regularly even now :o) but I've been freshly inspired by
some equally impressive efforts. I don't want to knock any of the other
excellent efforts there, but the three movies that have really impressed
me so far are two by Kevin Durber (bl2.wmv and keepitreal.wmv) and one
from the dutch sim racing zone (dsz_the_movie.wmv). These are so cleverly
edited and "video processed" that they look like real life footage at
times... amazing work.

So this morning I'm in glass-is-half-full mode. Thanks to everyone whose
hard work continues to inspire those of us who occasionally lose the faith
;o)

And of course, unlikely though it may be, if anyone is sitting in a back
room somewhere working on a GPL2 add-on for N2002 (or whatever form such a
project would take) then you have my permission to continue work and
continue keeping quiet about it. There's nothing worse than a sim ***
tease :o)
