Did you notice that the shifter graphics are gone? Now you actually have
to remember (god forbid) what gear you're in...

Subject says it all.  Six screen shots, with some in car and others of
the menus.

Check out: http://www.next-generation.com/news/061196e.html

Of special intrest is image6, as it shows a very realistic looking
rendition of sun glare on the windshield.

Once again Papyrus, it looks like you have a winner on your hands.

The screen shots do look great, especially the last one of the sun
glare.  At least now I'll be able to tell which way north is at some
of the tracks! ;>

One thing that bothered me is that the portion of the screen devoted
to your outward view is now actually SMALLER than in the original sim.
This doesn't do much to improve situational awareness.  Things look
prettier but I want to see more around me.

Bill.

Even More!!
The Speedometer is gone! Actually I'm glad! It is nice to get a more
realistic feeling! One question: Will I need sunglasses for the window
glare?? :)  How bout' a helmet?? Will that be a NRL rule?? Ok. Ok.
Enough dry jokes!!

I noticed that as well.  Hopefully there will be a way that you can
optionally include those items.  Why?  Now that you can actually read the
tach, you'll have to set it for pit lane speeds.

I also hope the glare is optional.  Even if I wanted to go through the
trouble of really simulating that aspect, my machine isn't currently up to
it.

Speaking of pit lane speeds, hopefully they'll put that in the track text
file to allow for differing pit lane speeds.

Is it me, or is anyone else less than e***d after seeing those shots?  I
mean, I want a new and improved Nascar as much as anyone else, but the only
thing I noticed new in those shots was the dashboard and the interface.
However, there were no really close-ups of the cars to really tell if in
fact they have been re-done.

As a matter of fact, those shots seem to be doctored if you ask me.  The
dashboard is the same in every shot.  Perhaps it was pasted on, or perhaps the
dials don't work in the version they got the shots from. Also, the sun glare
looked too good IMHO.  I hope it looks that good in the game, but if you look
close, it is the same image as image 3 (I think....c***te at start/finish).
Again, it looks doctored to me.  How about someone from Papy commenting on
this?

Actually, and I don't want to upset anyone, but these AREN'T pictures of
NASCAR 2. Marc Nelson of Sim Racing News spoke to Papyrus at E3, and
they told him that these shots are of a "test" version of the original
NASCAR Racing, which is being used to test some of the new features of
NASCAR 2. The clouds and sunglare are new, most of the rest you have on
your hard disk already.

Below is the message Marc posted on CompuServe explaining this...

Cheers!
John

To everyone who has viewed the reported "NASCAR-2 screen-shots"....

I hate to bust the bubble on this one folks, but the recent report
on NASCAR-2 screen-shots is a bit misleading.  The pictures, located on
the Next-Generation Game News page, aren't exactly from the new game.
The pictures are actually from an optimised in-house version of NASCAR
Racing (original) with a couple of the NASCAR-2 features added-in as a
test.  Papyrus is currently testing the effects of the re-designed
track-surfaces, new handling characteristics, and other general code-
tests.

During my recent interview with Adam Levesque, the producer at
Papyrus for NASCAR-2, I asked about obtaining screen-shots of the
pictures on the back of the NASCAR Racing League brocure.  He agreed,
but indicated that they weren't NASCAR-2 screen-shots (technically), as
I've indicated above.  The pics you see at NG are the some of the same
ones I saw at E3, and I had considered adding these pics to the June
issue of SRN, but felt that some would be mislead into thinking they
were the real McCoy, which they are not.  The cloud and dash-detail will
go into the final code (with minor adjustments).  I don't have any info
as yet about the sun-glare, but I will do my best to find more out.

If any of you have doubts, there are 2 things you can do to confirm
this:

1) Contact Adam Levesque at Papyrus

2) Look at the pictures and look at the AI cars ahead in the in-car
shots...see it?...Hmmmm... somehow that car with the NASCAR logo looks a
bit familiar...oh, yes-now I remember. It's the #50 (modem-player)
NASCAR from the original game.

This note is not intended to bring people's spirits down about the
upcoming release of the game, but I felt everyone should be made aware.
This is also not intended to discredit anyone from Next-Generation, but
mistakes do happen...

pics, the address is:

I agree, it would be nice to have a way to set a needle on the guage so you
know the rev limit for pit road.

It also looks as if Sierra showed those Papyrus boys how to draw some clouds -
or did they learn that from MP?!?!

Hi All,
Well...That's half right John.  The driving shots are tests of the
new dash and the sun glare.  While not actually in the game yet, they are
a good indication of what they will look like.  As for the sun glare, we
aren't 100% sure that will be in the game.  It was a mistake to release
that shot without it being 100%.  Having said that, we are going to do
everything we can to get it in the game.  As far as the interface shots,
those are real.  Sorry about the confusion regarding these shots.  If you
guys have any other questions, feel free to write me.

Adam,

Maybe its just me, but the referenced screen shots look like the driver's position is significantly lower then
in the original NASCAR. In fact, they look like the new dash has been overlayed onto a front bumper view.

Probably gonna help with frame rate though. Did you see the graphics... my
wife thought it was a picture from a real race. I am using the sun glsre
shot as wallpaper in Windows and then drooling everytime I sit at the
computer :-)

Sun glare? Hugh?  Might be nice, but I'd like to have the ablility to toggle
it off.

of reguard to reality...

The glare bit is a decent option, but, how will we be able to find out what
speed we're at for pit speeds determination?  I actually like the
speedometer for that reason, but it's not realistic, so what in between
measure could we use?  Perhaps a pit lane radar display like the Indycar
series uses?
