N4 no cd hack error..."not a valid win32 app"

by Bubb » Mon, 23 Jul 2001 09:41:33

Hey all, just had a cdrom drive die on me in the middle of setting up for a
race a few minutes ago and in a pinch went to www.gamecopyworld.com to pick
up their N4 v 1.1 no cd fixed .exe and now when I run it it says this is not
a valid win32 app, any ideas? For all you knee jerk "buy the game you pirate
warez freak" people out there I do own the game and have a valid cd key,
worse case I'll buy a new cdrom drive tomorrow as it's too late where I
am...I'm thinking that maybe I need to edit something regarding my cd
key...any help is appreciated,

Bubba

The NoCD app. should work for off-line racing. It won't work for online
racing though. You'll need to use something like "daemon tools" and set
up a "virtual" CD drive. But you need to copy the Nascar4 CD to your
hard drive, so I guess your still s.o.l., Sorry..

Thanks for the reply Mick, I almost forgot about the online requirement of
the CD though I was just going in and doing some NH testing, I'll grab a
drive tomorrow at BB but just wish the stupid hack worked for offline which
it doesn't, giving the not a valid win32 app error...btw I'm in win2k so
wondering if it's an OS dependant error...

N4 no cd hack error..."not a valid win32 app"

The nocd works fine under win98,  can't say why it wouldn't with 2k.
The patch is for offline only, if you try and race online, you need the
cdrom in the tray for verification.  The deamon method gets around that, but
you have to clone the cd image from the disk to the hard drive,  this won't
work for you if your cdrom is dead.  But once you get a working cd, and if
you have the hard drive space, you can use clone cd to make an image of the
n4 cd on your hard drive, then use the daemon tools to mount the cd...the
computer then thinks the cd is in your cdrom drive and the online
verification passes.  This requires several other programs and about 600mb
of your hard drive to work however.

If you own the game, then I recommend you just use CloneCD to create an ISO
Image, and then use DaemonTools to mount it and run the game.

You can then put the original in the box for safe keeping.

The CloneCD/DaemonTools will also allow you to race online, no problem.
