Okay, to (re)open a can of worms.  I think after 4 years of service my
TSW2cup is dying.  What makes me say that?  After a couple of minutes
of racing, there will suddenly be 0 throttle response.  The rpms just
drop to idle and nothing I can do can change that.  I can exit the
session, return and nothing.  I can exit the sim, return, and I'll get
another few minutes.

I'm assuming there's nothing I can do (and I may very well be wrong)
to fix this one.  If there is, let me know.  If not, what wheel should
I get and what should I stay away from?

Oh, my major use is for NASCAR Racing series sims, SCGT, and the
occasional foray into road racing series (F1 3, F1 2001 [no, I don't
have F1 4 or F1 2002] and Viper racing).  Currently I've got an Athlon
800 (soon to be a 1.3 gig).

Aren't TSW's designed to be field-serviceable with common electrical  parts
and a soldering iron?

That would be fine if I knew what was up with it.  Is it the pot?  The
wiring?  Funny thing is the wheel section shows up fine.  It's just
the pedals that are screing up.

Sounds like its time to replace the potentionmeters.  You can get them
easily from the TSW site.  http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/prods.html

Sounds like the potentiometers need to be replaced.  You can order new ones
from the TSW site.  http://www.thomas-superwheel.com/prods.html

TSW has really good detailed installation instructions too.

Have you ever replaced the pots in your wheel? If you went 4 years with
the originals...you did good! If that doesn't work, you can always send
it back to Thomas for repairs. Hell, I'd do that in a heartbeat before I
buy a new wheel. Actually, I have to do that. My TSW2 has suffered from
chewing kitten syndrome, and the wires from the pedals to the wheel need
to be replaced. Of course, she won't have anything to do with the wires
on my old Logitech wheel!!!

Amen Gary, outside of the pots, TSW wheels are warrantied for life IIRC.
They were when I got my TSW 2 Cup. Oh and watch out for the kittens. I have
some HUGE kittens (or so they think) that are nearly 2 now and they still
like to knaw...

When I get around to sending the TSW in for repairs, I'm going to ask
for some kind of kitten-proofing for the wires. Then she can go back to
chewing the s-video cables on my DVD player. I'm trying to fatten her up
so she doesn't fit behind the TV anymore ;-)

LOL! Spoken like a true feline owner.

As for the knawing though, I found that that ?" corrogated 'conduit' looking
stuff that folks use to neaten up their wiring messes, will last long enough
to catch any problems before they start. At least they chew on it for a
while before they get to the actual wiring inside it. My boys have calmed
down some with the knawing, but still try to squeeze behind things, like
your TV/DVD player situation. I got my 'wire loom' or 'conduit' stuff at
Radio Shack IIRC. Cheap, and worth the effort IMO.

That's exactly what I was thinking about getting. Thanks for the
heads-up.
