I've always been faithful to the Alison Hine and her setups, together with
Chris Moses and his Eagle ones, but I feel it's time I sowed my wild oats.
I can be faithful no longer.

I know it's terrible but I'm so e***d with the idea of, y'know, doing it
myself! <blush>.  But where do I begin?  Will I be any good after all this
time?  Will the other chassis respect me??

Are there any websites I can visit which will show me the way?  Somewhere
where I can learn to please a chassis, taming understeer or perhaps even
bringing on full oversteer?!!  No credit card sites, please.

p.s. I am over 18.

I am no setup guru, and prefer to just tweak Huttu setups, but I still like
to read about it in the hope that some of it might sink in. Here's what I
recommend:

1. Alison's site (http://www.racesimcentral.net/) - there is
lots of info on setups there if you look around.

2. Gpl Race Engineer (GRE) which can be downloaded from Alison's site. The
Help file is quite good.

3. The "GPL Foolishness" site, by Richard Nunnini, which used to be at
http://www.racesimcentral.net/~richardn/ but has apparently moved or gone down.
Sorry, I don't know the new URL but if it's out there somebody on RAS will
know it.

ahem

I hear that this one covers your needs to a T - www.simbin.com
Specifically, you can get info on dialling in/out oversteer/understeer etc.

I can't believe the gall of some people!? Why don't you take it to
alt.binaries.***.gpl.setups.tips where it belongs?

Sometimes I just wish for r.a.s. to be moderated!

P.S: Carroll Smith's book "Drive to Win" has some nice general info on
you-know-what though the pictures are less than hot. But some of the
drawings...! :-O

It think Richard Nunnini has the market cornered...

http://website.lineone.net/~richardn/index.html

Every setting and it's effect on the attitude of the chassis is explained
there. However, as a rule and IMO, slight understeer is desirable for cars
that have to be raced against other cars.

I'd also like to refer to an earlier post of mine and point out setup is a
two way thing. To maximally benifit from a certain setting, a slight change
in style/approach may be required. Which may prompt yet a further change,
which.... ;-))

Jens, I went there, but it was full of "XXX speed satisfaction", "you'll
love how fast our cars go" and "break the limits of adhesion with these
*** replays" spam.  >8-0

You might want to have a look at these articles including a sheet you print
and have handy for working on your setups.

The one you gave still works from my PC.  Excellent site, too.

Well it wasn't there *yesterday*!

Or I didn't wait long enough for it to load...
