You think maybe Sierra is tryin to hold out as long as they can with
this patch in order to squeeze in more Rendition Card sales?

Just pondering?

I seriously doubt that, I suspect they would have more to gain in increased
N2 sales with the 3dfx patch out than they would additional Screamin 3d
cards. Especially since there are several rendition cards out there now,
and they only sell the screamin card, mfg'ed by Canopus for them.

Er, no.

If you wanted to squeeze in more Rendition sales, you would delay any
sort of announcement about 3dFX versions, not delay the release of the
product.

Whether or not the product is actually available has no effect on
sales, knowing that the product is on the way is the key.

No ***....

Cheers!

What is probably happening is that Papy's R&D group has not had enough
time to play around with the 3dfx patch. They want to mess with it for
awhile so they can say that they tested it extensively, makes them
look like their doing something.
I think that patch is also being delayed so that NROS can have time to
work the patch into it's system.
Just my 2 cents

Sheesh, guys, please give this N2 3dfx *** stuff a rest....been
hearing it since this time LAST year.  I think anyone really interested in
buying a Screamin' 3D to play Nascar 2 has done so long ago - and anyone
buying a Rendition board now is going to buy a Stealth II for $80-$100,
which doesn't do anything for Sierra.  And the reason that N2 was rendition
only in the first place had lot's more to do with Papyrus coding the
special version of ICR2 as a "showcase" game for the card, and that this
code could be re-used for N2 pretty easily.

The 3dfx guys said they weren't able to get the framerate as fast as they
wanted last I had heard, maybe Papy is tweaking it some, or just doing some
bug-fixing.  Sierra could care less about selling S3D's now, I'm sure, or
they'd support it in Pro Pilot and Red Baron 2.  And, I have yet to see EA
rushing non-3dfx patches out for any of their game.

Now, don't get me wrong, I WANT this patch, as I have switched from a 3D
Blaster (rendition) and it's replacement, a Viper (Riva 128) to a Hercules
Stingray 128/3D Voodoo Rush card, for the sole reason of playing 3dfx
native games.  Yeah, yeah, I know, shoulda just bought a Monster 3D for
$140, tried a few of 'em, all of 'em disliked my NEC monitor intensely,
displaying vertical lines whenever in D3D or glide games, doesn't happen on
my Stingray at all.  Seems the focus on some NEC's is too sharp, and picks
up a flaw in the M3D's video output.  And yes, the Viper was faster in D3D,
but not by more than 10-15% (on a K6/200) - and Jedi Knight doesn't pause
like it did on the Riva.  Win 95 2D is noticeably slower, but the Herc is
faster than the 3D Blaster in Win 95, and actually seems faster in GP2 or
N2 than the Riva.  And while there is the occasional 3dfx game that doesn't
play on a Rush without a patch (or never), they are very uncommon with the
newer games, and I can sure play a lot more of 'em than with the Riva. : )
And a native 3dfx Nascar 2 will be just that much more icing on the cake.
