Controller Conflicts

Has anyone experienced similar conflicts.

I use a GP1 wheel for driving (CART, GP2, , Nascar, GPL).  I also like
to fly (usually MSFlight Sim or Combat Flight Sim).  For flying I use a
CH Flightstick.  The wheel is plugged into a gamecard and the stick is
plugged into the soundcard.  I have experienced many conflicts between
the two controllers.  Control panel will show one or both controllers
are either disconnected or "error".  Things were running fairly smoothly
until I installed Nascar99, and then, I started seeing a lot of
conflicts.

It seems that the only way to run one or the other controller, I have to
physically disconnect the controller I don't need and recalibrate the
one I do need.  This is a rather awkward way to do things.  I am going
to try an A/B switch so that the computer can only "see" one controller
at a time.

Would going to Win98 help?  Anyone have any ideas?

I run my Logitech WFF for SCGT and Rally 2K. I use a MS Precision Pro for
European Air War and MSCFC. I have to remove one to use the other. It only
takes a minute with the controller icon. Though, it can be a pain.

I cannot run both active at the same time. Only Bill Gates knows why.
Though, I thought 98 was supposed to just recognize and install all these
toys instantly?

LIES! Put him up against the wall!

I'm running 98

P3-450, 64RAM, DViper550, SB Live.

Generally, you can't have both a dedicated game card and your soundcard
gameport active at the same time.  It will cause conflicts, as you've
experienced.  I run Win95, but I don't think that this changed with Win98.

I have a Logitech Wingman Extreme joystick, an MS gamepad, a TSW racing
wheel (pedals only, since I use an LWFF wheel connected to the serial port
with it)., and a MIDI keyboard hooked to my system.  The way I do it is
through an A-B-C-D joystick port switch.  I manually select the device with
the switch, then change the active controller in Windows 95 Control Panel.
(I don't have to do the 2nd part to use the MIDI keyboard).  The A-B-C-D
switch is connected to the gameport of my SB Live card.  This set up has
worked fine for me for quite some time.

Believe me, if it works for me with all this STUFF hooked up, it should work
for almost anyone.

Unfortunately, I've never seen an A-B-C-D or even an A-B switch at a retail
store.  I bought the one I have at a local computer show for about $20.  I
usually don't recommend buying a lot of stuff at these shows, but they
generall do have a lot of hard-to-find gizmos.

One last thing, if you buy a switchbox, don't get an electronic one that
"automatically" detects whichever controller you want to use.  Get a
mechanical one with a knob that clicks each selection.  They're cheaper and
much more reliable in my opinion

Hope this helps.

Get a CH JoySwitch switch box (you can connect up to four joysticks) and
then download their software for handling this.  The software allows you to
set up all the different joysticks that you have connected to the switch
box, each connected to ID 1.  This will also allow you to hook them both up
to your dedicated gamecard, which is probably smoother than your
soundcard's game port.

The Windows 98 Game Controller applet doesn't really help at all.

I have a similar problem.
I have a Logitech Extreme Digital 3D joystick that is USB connected and a
TSW wheel that is connected to the gameport on my soundcard.
If I want to use the wheel I have to disconnect my joystick.
I just pull the USB cable B4 I run any racing sims.
It is a hassle but it works!!!

Is it possible to operate both a USB joystick at the same time as a
gameport joystick (on Win98)?  I would like to play the split screen (2
player) Need for Speed: High Stakes with two joysticks.

Thanks!

I run Win98 Second Edition and I can quite happily leave my wheel, joystick
,gamepad, etc plugged in without any problems. So maybe SE solved htat
particular problem?

Yes, although a game might be (mis- ;) programmed to
only look at the first joystick in the list.
