Yeah, I had it for awhile (gave up on the low framerates only days before
they released the Glide patch...grrr...). The funny thing is, they
advertise on the back of the box that you can race at Monza and Suzuka (I
think). Uhh...nope! I remember calling their support line, and hearing
things like "well, those may be bonus tracks or something, I don't really
know...if you're not happy with the game, you're certainly entitled to a
refund...." Basically they ignored the fact that it is blatant false
advertising (anyone who has access to the aforementioned tracks, let me
know...).
I just picked up another one of their games (stop me, please!), Johnny
Herbert's Grand Prix Champions (uhhh...Sauber's a Champion team, huh?) 1998.
Actually not a bad game; I'm starting to enjoy it for a break between 1967
Grands Prix.... So what's funny about this title? Well, false advertising
comes into play yet again, with their 3Dfx badge on the box, and the claim
that it "...supports both Direct3D and 3Dfx Voodoo chipsets..." Well, I
have yet to get 3Dfx to work, but D3D performs well enough. I talked yet
again to their support, and they recommended I install *DIRECTX 5.0 OVER MY
6.0 VERSION* and *INSTALL AN OLDER (by six months) VERSION OF MY 3D CARD
DRIVERS!* Also, the man sounded very uncomfortable with his job, and
silently listened (i.e. not interrupting me if I was wrong) while I told him
the difference in 2D and 3D cards, and what Direct3D and Glide are. You
read right - I needed to explain what it was he was supposed to be helping
me with. Ugh. I'll check their website for a Voodoo patch like the
Superbikes one, but I'm not too hopeful.
In the future, Intense Games, I would recommend you put a line like
"ANYTHING BUT THIS GAME" under the "Recommended" system specs. :-)
