I'm looking to get a joystick for driving to replace my old one, which just
broke. (I don't have the money nor the space for a wheel).

My old joystick was great for driving as it had a narrow short stick with no
buttons on it and was just nicely waited, it had two buttons on the base but
I never found the need to use them.

However looking through the joysticks available now all there seems to be is
large things with a wide stick with buttons on it, not at all like the old
one which I could rest my wrist on the base and control the stick with my
fingertips.

Is there such a thing as a v.v.basic joystick with no buttons on the stick.

(My old joystick was a Quickshot purchased in 1988, it was pretty much the
only joystick you could get 12 years ago.).

CH Products still sells the super little Mach joysticks
online.  www.chproducts.com I think.

I used to think the new crop of 'oversized' joysticks would be just too
unwieldy for driving games, but eventually took the plunge and, like all
things, I got used to them.  Now I wouldn't go back to the cheaper ones
if I was offered one for free.  Just make sure that you get one that has
plenty of throw. In other words, one where the stick itself has a large
deflection from full left to full right etc, otherwise you're going to
have to be very precise.  Also those extra buttons can be useful for
those extra features that you only need occasionally, but can be a
*** to find when trying to look at your keyboard and the monitor at
the same time. :-(
