>You can get demo at www.europress.co.uk

I'll second this, I picked up this one last week and was really
surprised at the realism. Some of the best features are the weather
effects such as rain, fog, lightning and snow. If GP2 had a rain
simulation as good as this it would be brilliant.

There are 28(?) different stages, on all terrains from mud, gravel,
tarmac, snow, water crossings,  jumps. Some of the stages are 50 kms
or more in length and may take 25 minutes or more to complete.

It also has night stages,  network play (havent tried it over Kali
yet), championship mode, detailed car setup and ***ive gameplay.

This is the rally sim we've been waiting for.

Don't believe it.  RAC drives like crap, try screamer 2 instead.  It
may not have all the rally stuff, but you can slide the cars, unlike
RAC.

I have both games. Comparing to RAC, Screamer 2 is just a piece of shi_ in
terms of graphics, sounds and frame rate. RAC cd-rom is always in my drive
when I play rally game while S2... oh I even can't find the cd-rom
right now... :(

Erm, the cars DO slide in Rally Championship or whatever its called. You
must be thinking of the prequel, Rally, which was less fun than watching
paint flake.

If I had never drived a real car maybee my copy of RAC Rally
would still be at my desk instead of in the toilet!
The game itself looks and sounds great, but handles baaaaad.....
I would go for screamer.....the handling takes a while to get
used to, but its really fun and somewhat realistic.

So you've driven a real car... and you always slide your car like playing
S2... are you a professional rally driver or living in a place where the
weather snows all the time?

OK. I would accept that people have different taste in the world, just
like choosing apple or orange.

Have you actually played it? Not only can you slide brilliantly, you
can even overcookit  mid corner and spin out, or roll your car. The
"slideability" of the car also varies between the wide range of
surfaces and tyre types available in the game. EG: Try driving with
the Tarmac tyres on a Snow stage. It's like Torvill and Dean.

It slides much more realistically than S2. S2 slides madly on every
track, with very little variation. RAC slides more on snow and gravel
than on Tarmac.

Well RAC's track is so narrow that you just slide between the walls
without any real control. S2 is much better in that way, and more fun
anyhow IMHO.

<Snip>

Can you make a REAL car power slide like in Screamer 2? Sure it's
really cool, but not very realistic.

Hmm. I actually thought that S2 played better on my computer. (I've
only tried the demo of S2 though.) When I play RAC I usually play with
a smaller screen 'cause the framerate bothers me a bit. (I play in 95
BTW.) In case anyone's wondering I have a P90 with a so so graphics
card.

Now, IMHO both games are REALLY great! And both look very good! Both
seem to use a similar mapping technique that make the ground look
smooth. (Compared to PC Sega Rally, which sucks-sucks-sucks.)

One other minor gripe about RAC is that some levels gave me a very
crowded feel. Some forest lavels are a VERY narrow road in a forest,
but the forest is only "wall sprites" and on some ocations (When on a
high hill for instance.)  you can see the road continue as three
sprites in a grey void. It's kinda' hard to explain, but if you ever
have tried the "out of level" view in Quake you know what it looks
like. Not very pretty I'm afraid. The S2 demo level gave a better
"depth" feel to me than some of these RAC levels.

We had a LAN meet last night and played RAC quite a lot, it's a blast
with multi-player. We were playing 6 at once and that was a BLAST!
Only gripe is that you can absolutely NOT have another net game
running at the same time.(We had C&C:Red Alert running as well.) This
destroys the game entirely :-( During those races we had serious
problems with the synching of the comuputers and you ocationally
"swapped cars" with other players. (Extremely frustrating.) and
sometimes half the screen went black or white. On other ocations you
"hopped" from side to side on the road. Now imagine all that happening
at 280 kph and you know what I mean. ;-) Again, this ONLY happened
when another game was running, probably they where in some stupid
conflict. I have a feeling it won't play very well over KAli and such
services unfortunately.

About the gameplay of both games you can say that both are really
good. In the beginning S2 is almost impossible to control, due to the
sliding that is perhaps a bit overdone IMHO. RAC suffers from a lesser
"depth" on the road, where you can't take a "short cut" in a tight
bend, you just run into an invisible wall. Kind of irritating.

Well, that was a long rant. I'd just like to say that the games are
both good, just a bit different. S2 is more arcade racing, Sega Rally
style. While RAC is realistic with some looooong tracks. (And those
are really cool to play in MP.)

Actually, here in Quebec, Canada, we have snow like 5 months a year. And
believe me, if I were to take a corner at 100 mph in the snow I would
probably have a BIG accident. This doesn't happen in RAC Rally, where
you just lost speed and slide a little bit...
