Principles of driving physics - any resources out there?

Principles of driving physics - any resources out there?

by Carl Gavi » Thu, 27 Jan 2000 04:00:00

Due to all the discussions on the merits of certain game physics over other
games, I was wondering whether there were any sites out there that discussed
the fundamentals of modelling the physics of a racing car - either general
or specific to a particular game.

Anyone got any advice?

Cheers,

Carl

Principles of driving physics - any resources out there?

Vehicle dynamics is an engineering discipline unto itself. Web page coverage
simply doesn't do it justice. Search for SAE's website, and order Milliken's
"Racecar Vehicle Dynamics" book. As with almost everything else, about all
you can model without a good understanding of the subject is your own
misunderstanding. Get the book.

Michael.

Another excellent book (a bit more approachable
with more discussion of the basics) is:

Fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics, Thomas Gillespie,
SAE, Danvers, MA, 1992. ISBN 1-56091-199-9
