** Sim Racing News at E3! **

Visiting the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in L.A., I found some
interesting news on some of the most anticipated racing titles:

--------------------------------------------------
N3: Although Papyrus failed to send anyone to the annual event - #1 for
anything to do with electronic *** - Sierra reps were nonetheless on
hand to give the skinny on the sim (plus another racing title to be
released at about the same time).

I'll be formulating my annual flame towards the Boston franchise, and
will post it sometime tomorrow night on SRO. All I can say is you're not
going to like what you hear (no, it hasn't been cancelled or delayed
again).

--------------------------------------------------
EAI: TransAm is a knockout! Crisp, clear and very playable - accuracy to
a "T" - TAR might be one of, if not "the" top sim if released...uh...if?

--------------------------------------------------
Motorsims: These guys have what is sure to be the end-all sim from the
ground up! If you're into awesome online multiplayer, all you'll need is
a good ISP...

--------------------------------------------------
MicroProse: Working closely with Kenny Roberts, Jr. for an accurate
physics model, MPS was showing off the "GP2" of bike sims: GP500!

Cheers!

Marc

Marc,

I've been waiting what seems forever for the release of TAR 68-72. Do
you have a release date?

The first pages of my multi-page report on the 1999 E3 Expo are now
posted on the SimRacing Online site.  First 2 sections deal with
introducing E3, a report on N3's progress and a new sim Papyrus has in
the works.

Followups later this evening will include Motorsims' AMA Superbike,
EAI's TransAm Racing, and the GP500 bike sim from MicroProse.

That N3 news doesn't sound good to me.  I'm sure Sierra will force it out by
Christmas.

That news about not using GPL engine completely stinks. All this waiting for
what. Make it right or don't bother! If it still uses the N2 engine it will
be junk. Nascar99 was really pushing it as it was.

Maybe I'm just a Papy "lackey" but from the sounds of it, I'm looking
forward to even NR2000!  It SOUNDS like (yeah, I know) the physics
will still be largely new.  If they improve the smoke and sounds, the
car shapes and the AI I'd still buy it.  As long as we don't LOSE
anything either.  I can only pray they're smart enough to also allow
you to pit relative to your starting position - a MASSIVE omission to
this point!

The shock of hearing it won't use the GPL engine really ticked me off.
But after reading the other preview about Nascar2000 I'm also looking
forward to it. I have a feeling it might be an engine a lot like Viper
Racing.
