Yet another Viper patch...

by Dave Pollatse » Wed, 05 Sep 2001 09:47:34

Well, I was merging in Heat's multiple controller code, and I increased the
vertex pool, so you should be able to use larger meshes with custom
cars--however, I haven't tested it with larger meshes, so you may run up
against some other limitation...

http://www.racesimcentral.net/

New since the "real" 1.1 patch- Win2K/XP fixes
New since 1.2 BETA: multiple controller support, better support for
shifters, should work with ACT Labs GPL shifter.  (So the one guy who wants
to player Viper with the Logitech wheel, CH Pedals, and GPL shifter can
finally rest easy)

As with the 1.2 BETA patch, this is not a supported release, Sierra has no
involvement with this, this patch is "AS IS", doesn't even have a proper
installer, don't call Sierra tech support with problems with this patch,
etc, etc.

Thanks Dave! Viper is one of those evergreen sims... Sometimes I don't
play it for a while, but Inever uninstall it, and it always seems
great when I go back.

THANK YOU!!!

I really appreciate this kind of support. Viper had me hooked the moment I
tried the excellent, polished demo.

Now when are we going to get a touring car / street car / rally / hillclimb
/ Interstate 76-ish non-oval successor? ;-)

Thanks Dave!  You guys at MGI are my heroes!!!

;-)

Viper Racing is one of the few sims that has enjoyed a permanent home
on all my PCs -- it's never been uninstalled to make room for anything
else, I always find myself going back to drive some of the tracks and
such, and it was the main reason why I bought NASCAR Heat the first
day it went on sale on day one.

Other developers could learn a lot from MGI . . . <G>

Wow, you Viper guys are a lot easier to satisfy than the Heat users... I
guess that's the advantage of simulating a fictional sport on fictional
tracks--nobody can say "turn three on Ridge Valley is _totally_ wrong in
Viper Racing... I was there last year, and it's at least four feet wider and
the banking is much steeper."
Also, just to set the record straight, if you guys have heard of  a PS2
product called "Viper Heat" by Titus, it has no connection to MGI, the
"other" MGI, Sierra, or Infogrames, and probably doesn't even support
horn-ball.  Go figure.

No horn-ball?  Well - forget them!  Now if we could just get that into the REAL Nascar...  Talk about ratings!

Let me add another thanks to you guys at MGI; we could use more like you!

But they don't get to race Sedans at Mesa!? (That long track in the
desert with the wicked esses down the mountain in reverse mode -- hey, I
only race it once a week but it's still great fun)

I would have liked race style tracks though and wouldn't have complained
about the dust in T3 not being correct ;)

I absolutely LOVE Sunset Mesa -- it's one of my favorite tracks EVER!

Now if only someone can figure out how to import it into NASCAR Heat
so we can use it with the CART and LeMans mods . . .

Now that you mention it, if you guys were aware of the problems with
turn three on Ridge Valley, then why didn't you fix it in the first
place?  I don't think it's actually four feet wider, though -- it's
really about 3.5 feet wider than you have it modeled.  Your banking is
close, but I think it's still off by about two degrees.

Small nits to pick, I know, but things like this can kill a game . . .
