Not particularly good news for AMD, especially with the K7 (Athlon) around
the corner.

But it is good that they lost less than expected <VBG>
The biggest problem here is that Intel has the high end processors to
subsidize the losses on the low end. Thus, they can beat AMD at a price war.
If the Athlon does not meet up to expectations, Id expect AMD to have a super
hard time competing in the market. It does not help when your president
resigns either.

Still, thats a huge loss. And its either the 2nd or 3rd quarter in a row of
losses.
war.
I don't see that as a problem. :)
Well so far, its having a hard time convincing the people it needs to that
the Athlon is any good, i.e. the big people such as Dell, HP, Compaq, etc.
Perhaps he was forced out?

The only major vendors who have given a flat no to the Athlon are the ones
seated firmly in Intel's pocket. (You know, they fit in really nice and
snugly next to that wallet....)
Pretty much all the vendors whose noses aren't quite as far up Intel's bum
will be releasing Athlon systems.

That remains to be seen.
