I just heard on the radio that the Justice Department is a little
miffed about MICROSOFT'S unusual way of "attempting" to comply with
the recommendations of the federal injunction against them.

It seems that when they DID take the IE off the Windows 95 and
associated software, the consumer got what was esentially a worthless
piece of junk!

BOY ------- DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR!!!!!!!!!!!           LOL

In a previous post, I read that a person bought CPR under the hopes
that MS will improve the product and release the updates for it in
time.

Well ----------- it seems to me that if MS is so damned HEADSTRONG
that they would release such a piece of software --- regards to the
federal action pending --------- DO YOU HONESTLY THINK THEY ARE GOING
TO BREAK THEIR NECKS TO HELP US MERE MORTALS OUT!!! ?????????

I am going to wait until it IS corrected and running properly
---------- THEN decide ---------------- how much you wanna bet I WAIT
FOR A ------------- L       O       N       G        TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Piece of friendly advice for you:  don't try to compare CPR with IE4 and the
Justice Department stuff.  The issues are entirely separate.

Microsoft is fighting a war to determine what the future of desktop computing
will be, and the Justice Department is trying to ensure that Microsoft cannot
leverage its near-monopoly on Windows 95 to determine that future.

There is no such situation with CPR.  Its a GAME.  It does not threaten Ubisoft
or any other company on a less than level playing field.  About the only
advantage Microsoft has with CPR is its marketing muscle and ability to pay
whatever amount for a CART license or any other license it needs.  As for the
software itself, I think its pretty clear MS isn't gaining any significant
advantage here for being Microsoft (one might say that they are at a
disadvantage if they ARE using newer cutting edge features in D3D because they
managed to somehow expose D3D problems in CERTIFIED DRIVERS that other games
don't have!)

You seem to have the idea that MS is CPR, dont lose sight of the fact
that CART is TRI's baby and it is they who are doing all the work of
making it right, this first patch improved the sim a BUNCH :)!

blah, blah, MS sucks, blah, blah, blah...
I'm not quite as jaded as you are towards Microsoft but I, too will wait
for a few patches before considering the purchase of CPR. I'm not really
expecting a lot from a driving game, only that it be driveable. Even a
game like Carmageddon is driveable, in that the car goes where you steer
it. I was really disappointed with the CPR demo. It was almost but not
quite as bad as the X-Car demo, IMO. The worst driving game I've tried
in the past year or so was Power F1 (wow, what a stinker!). Eidos
released a joystick patch but it never felt driveable with a T2, IMO.
The next worst driving game was Formula 1 by Psygnosis. The graphics are
nice and it's fun with a MS Sidewinder game pad. However, the AI is
really, really bad, the control is terrible with a T2 and the menu
system just plain sucks. I won't go on but needless to say, I've tried
and owned (unfortunately) many terrible driving games in the past year.
However, since I've been reading posts on the RAS the past seven or
eight months, I've been clued-in to what's decent and what sucks.
A few driving games that I find cool, driveable, worthy of their
purchase price and existance on my computer are: 1. GPII 2. N2 3. F1RS
(my current personal favorite) 4. NFS2SE 5. Screamer 2 (but only after
the 3Dfx patch was released) 6. Pod 7. Carmageddon and 8. MTM. With the
exception of GPII and Pod, these games are allowed to live on my
computer.
A person might wonder how in the world a game like Carmageddon could be
considered better than CPR? I can only be honest and say that I'll be
going to buy the Splat Pack today and won't even look at the CPR box.
That is, until the patch is released.;-)

Oops, I lied.:-) I found a used copy of CPR at Interact for $30 while
there to buy the Splat Pack. I figured "what the heck." The patch is
being beta tested, the Act Labs RS force-feedback wheel is supposed to
be released next year and I'll need something besides NFS2SE to drive it
with. That is, until the force-feedback patch is released for F1RS.
