Strange Stuff While Racing SCC

by tlgt » Sat, 09 Apr 2005 22:57:50

Had some weird stuff happen tonite-so I thought I would ask the
experts...  Was driving SCC for F1c tonite and some weird stuff
happened. Running ALMS with 29 AI and me. I will describe as best I
can... Any idea's would be helpful. I know that now and then computers
just do goofy stuff to make us crazy so, it may be isolated, but... I
did consider just stopping and rebboting the machine.... I drive this
game A LOT with very few problems.

OK, first I was driving at Mid-Ohio and suddenly some of the button
functions I had programmed onto wheel buttons (Black Momo) just went
away-worked fine from the keyboard. Stopped the race exited the game,
restarted and they were back.

When I restarted I went to Road Atlanta. Here several weird things
happened. Several times the game went black and then came right back.
It kind of looked like the game had been minimized on the screen and
restored?? When this happened the programmed buttons went away again
and then one time when it went black and came back--the buttons were
back!  I *seem* to remember the going black and coming right back once
or twice before...but never more than once in a session...I think.  (I
seem to remember it was at Atlanta then too...??) The last thing-and
again I think this happened once before (Atlanta I think)... I was in
8th place then bingo after a bump and spin I am in 19th! And I know
than many cars didn't get by me.  The only thing I can think of is that
the session was set for 7 hours and 300 laps (we were gonna do a long
race once and never changed the settings back..)could this just be too
much for the game to handle?

Any of that make sense to anyone?  Anybody else see anything like this?
If you need more info-ask... I don't seem to see this anywhere else
except SCC...so far... ANYBODY able to help?

I haven't seen these issues so I'll only hazard a guess or two.
You may be over-extending your powersupply so the USB port is not getting
enough juice to fully power the wheel.  When a low voltage occurance
happens, it's like the wheel disconnects.  So the profiler then doesn't
know to load the SCC defaults when the short interupption is completed.
The jumping back and forth between black screens may also have something to
do with this...the Windows OS suddenly 'finds' a new piece of hardware (the
wheel after power levels creep back up to minimums) and happily wants to
inform you that it found new hardware and installed the proper software.

i don't know why it only shows up in SCC, and that may indicate
something else.  But that's my best guess.  you might want to try
unplugging extra DVD/CDrom/floppies and see if the condition goes away.

If you have an external flatbed scanner, I've been told by Computer
repair guys that those REALLY suck the juice.  You might want to only have
that plugged in and connected when you are actually using it.

Thanks Dave, I should have expected you would be the one to answer.  I
will double check my power connection and plugs.  (Two cats in the
house so you NEVER know...)  I will double check to see if I had
anything in the zip or CD drives that might have been being checked or
read...  The scanner is on the printer, which I don't remember is USB
or printer plug...
