GTR... going blonde...!

by DaveH-U » Wed, 23 Mar 2005 04:13:17

Hi...
Ok, am I 'going blonde' or what... I have had GTR (v-1.3) about a week
now (awesome sim) and still on a learning curve.  Couple of things, and
probably more later... but I am confused about the following:

In simulator mode while driving the Spa 'night' track, the headlamps
don't seem to work! They work in 'arcade and semi pro'.  From the (CD)
manual it surrgests that 'H' is the key for headlamps on/off... but mine
remain stubbonly 'off'!  I know I can adjust the 'darkness' level in
options... but I suspect that with on-line racing that this will be set
by the server. Anyone got any ideas on how to get the lamps on please?
Driving round Spa in near total darkness is tough!

Also, while on-line... I am trying to send 'pit out' & 'pit in'
messages!  The multiplayer section under menu option 'chat' has a list
of on-line messages that you can send. This also suggests that #1 is
'pit in' & #2 is 'pit out'... well the numeric keys under the 'F' keys
only switch the mirrors on/off and the numeric keypad does not seem to
action these pit in/out messages...!  Ok, how 'blonde' am I... any ideas
please?

Quick chat keys are CTRL and the number required.

Ok... I have not tried it yet... but I think I found the pit in/out
keystroke by reading the manual (always the last thing you do,eh!) seems
you gotta press 'C' to enable 'in car chat' then I presume the 'numeric'
keys will play!

Just got get these headlamps working... I presume the lights do come
on...?  Perhaps its a handicap race... like drive with no lights in the
dark <?> D'oh!

Headlamps work fine in sim mode in the demo at Spa.  Haven't tried any other
mode, though, so I don't know if there is a difference.  Still WAITING
IMPATIENTLY for my GTR full version to arrive from UK.

Sorry Dave, but you made yourself too easy a target!

I'll be the one saying "lights on, moron"

Lights worked in the demo. Never got into the feel of GTR here though, so
haven't got the full version.

Cheers

Hey Marc,

I just ordered my copy of GTR (actually two copies) from SENDIT.COM after
reading some positive comments from other reliable posters in this NG.  From
your email addy I see you're in Canada as well; question is, did you use
SENDIT.COM or have you found another good source that delivers to Canada?  I
tried GOGAMER but they won't take CDN credit cards over the internet, you
have to send them a money order, which blows.

Regards,

PJL

    I'm the REAL Dave H...and I AM Blonde...so there!!!!

THe chat keys are activated, as another posted stated, by using the key
combo of ctrl and the keyboard number keys..(not the keypad if I recall
correctly)  This is an outgrowth of a hack originally made for F1 2kx.
You can edit your chat list with a text editor like notepad.  If it works
in GTR like it did with F1 2k2, then you will find the list in your player
folder.
Next the keyboard key that activates your headlights.  The DEFAULT is
probably H, but if you loaded a preset wheel profile, then the exact key
may have been changed.  Because of problems with online chatting, I always
got into the habit of changing the assigned keys to non-letter keys.  I
don't 'think' this effects GTR anymore, but in the old F1 2kx days, If you
were online in a lobby and you started typing, everytime you pressed a key
that DID something, it would then spew out a half dozen of the same
character, so a pre-race chat could look like this:
"SSSSSo, does AAAAANyOnnnne want to raaaace at SSSPPPAA?"

So I try and move as many commands as possible to the exterior of the
keyboard, I use the alt keys, the ctrl keys the / and the. and , and
whatever else I can move away from a letter.  However, with GTR's expanded
set of options, you may find you don't have enough NON-letters on your
keybord to completely move every command.

Now back to your question,  you can look at all your key assignments in
GTR's control pages and there you can double check if the Headlight key
assignment has been changed.

Sorry guys, I know this is not alt.blondes.jokes but I got this one
yesterday and felt I had to share. Its driving related anyway:

A blonde woman was speeding down the road in her little red sports car
and was pulled over by a woman police officer who was also a blonde.

The blonde cop asked to see the blonde driver's license. She dug
through her purse and was getting progressively more agitated.

"What does it look like?" she finally asked.

The policewoman replied, "It's square and it has your picture on it."

The driver finally found a square mirror in her purse, looked at it
and handed it to the policewoman.

"Here it is," she said.

The blonde officer looked at the mirror, then handed it back saying,

"Okay, you can go. I didn't realize you were a cop."

Haha... very funny Joao :)

Thanks for all your help guys... I finally got all the keystrokes
sorted! I should spend more time reading the frigging manual and less
time driving, eh!
