SENNA TRIBUTE on ICQ Next Saturday (01.05.99)

by Dan Prescot » Sun, 25 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Subject DPMRA Non Championship Tribute Race To Senna (Imola)
Story   Next Saturday sees the DPMRA's 2nd Tribute Race to Ayrton Senna,
who was tragically killed 5 years ago, in a terrible accident whilst
leading the San Marino Grand Prix 5 years ago. The first tribute race
was staged on Monday 01st May 1995 and was won by Biki Louder driving a
Ferrari. Memories of Imola were stirred by the staging of the following
San Marino Grand Prix a day earlier and Dan Prescott felt, Senna's death
being perhaps the most tragic he has ever witnessed during a motor
racing event (the only death), that he should create a series of
tributes to one of his favourite past drivers. Dan admired Senna's pure
genius at getting pole position (65), his never give up attitude to
winning Grands Prix (41), and being one of the most successful drivers
this world has ever seen (3 World Titles). If it wasn't for that black,
grave, weekend in Bologna, which also saw the death of Austrian Roland
Ratzenberger, Senna would have perhaps gone on to much greater things.
In Dan Prescott's mind he would have become the greatest racing driver
that ever lived (Bar Moss, Clark, Fangio, Prost etc.) and this is why a
series of tributes have been organised to the one driver who will always
be remembered as a real, , true, sportsman. Not only a fair player and
but who always savoured victory.

Ayrton Senna    World Champion 1988, 1990, 1991

1960-1994

Dan Prescott is expected to commentate via ICQ on the tribute race which
will see the current DPMRA Entry List compete in the tribute race on his
P60. His Ferrari seat will be left blank. The 26 Starters will form
themselves up on a totally Random grid. He has a Pentium 2 233 which is
being shipped back home, nce he will have 2 machines at his disposal
next weekend), 1 to run the race on, and 1 to commentate on. His ICQ
number is 25252160. The race will be run on Saturday 01st May 1999 at
1300 GMT (1400 British Summer Time) or 1 hour after the qualifying for
the FIA's 1999 San Marino Grand Prix has finished. The race will be 33
laps and is expected to run for about 50 minutes. Coverage of the event
will begin on ICQ at 1250 GMT (0150 British Summer Time) 10 minutes
before the race is off. 1 minutes silence will be observed 5 minutes
before the race is off before all the drivers get in their cars for the
race. This is a Non Championship event and has no bearing on the
championship. Team liveries will be altered to carry no sponsorship on
this occasion but things will be back to normal for Canada on the 9th.

This is a sad and tearful event for some people and it is hoped that
most of you can attend. Whilst the race is in progress there will be a
few bits on the site and a submission form where you can leave comments
which will appear on the site a bit later on in the day. If anyone wants
to give me their ICQ number for this event I will gladly put them on my
ICQ list. This event is relying on TNT Express to deliver Dan Prescott's
Pentium 2 233 to the relevant address by Friday 30th April.

Thanks very much

Ayrton Senna
