Nascar: Passing (using) inside of inside line...

It's legal, but really isn't exactly the fastest way to get around
the track. I suggest turning the competition level of the opponents up
since you seem to be passing everyone on the banking like they're
standing still.

Nascar: Passing (using) inside of inside line...

A friend and I have just started racing Nascar. We'd like to know why
we're able to use the part of the track normally used for getting up to
race speed after exiting the pits? We typically start at the back and he
immediately cuts a left across the inside line of cars; over the inside
line; and then proceeds to pass a LOT of cars. Is this legal or not? None
of the computer cars do it and yet he doesn't get black flagged? Anyone?

It's legal to pass to the right, not the left.  of course, if the car
in front misses a shift, scramble!  however, from what you're
describing, it's illegal.  NASCAR RACING will not throw a black flag
for that however.  It's a matter of personal integrity and the honor
system.

Official NASCAR rules make it illegal to pass to the left on starts and
restarts until you cross the start/finish line. The game does not enforce
this rule, but you can obviously agree in advance to abide by the rule.

When you say "Official NASCAR rules make it illegal to pass *** to the
left *** on starts and restarts until you cross the start/finish line, "
do you mean on the left of the inside line or on the left at all? I should
think that using the flat lane for anything but getting up to race speed
out of the pits would be illegal. I don't watch Nascar though so I don't
know. The computer cars don't though.

Nick,

He's referring to what is commonly called "Jumping the flag"

It is illegal in most cases, to pass on the left side of the inside line of cars
until you cross the start/finish line on starts and restarts.  It is only
permitted in extenuatiing circumstances, i.e. the guy in front of you blows an
engine or misses a shift).  Passing is permited by passing on the right side of
the outside line of cars though.

It is also illegal to use the area below the inside stripe as a normal travel
lane.  This is considered a speed up/slow down/ break down lane and is not
considered a regular travel lane (just like in real life)

In NASCAR, all starts and restarts are double file. As I understand the
rules, you cannot pass a car to the left of the inside line of cars until
you have passed the start/finish line.

Maybe Pat Campbell will come along and enlighten us all on the exact rule.
