I purchased N99 solely because of it's compatibility w/ 3dfx...just about
every other game I own (Links LS99, FIFA World Cup 98, Star Wars Rouge
Squadron 3D, and Jane's F15) is compatible and I couldn't play N2 with my 3d
card installed...the damn thing wouldn't give me the gameplay screen...

So far N99 hasn't let me down...and I would like to thank Papyrus for waking
up, and not selling it's soul to rendition...to be honest, that would have
been the knife in the heart for this game.

N99 has better graphics in the sense that the terrain doesn't just "pop up"
when you are approaching a turn.

Also...the issue about cars bunching up may be fixed by SLIGHTLY adjusting
the "rels" setting in the track text file. Or try qualifying higher so your
not stuck back there. If you feel you have to start in the back for a
challenge try bumping up your opp strength to 101 or 102...that will have
you white knuckling your wheel for sure!!!

I run a P2 300 w/ 64 meg ram/Diamond Stealth 8 meg Fire GL 1000 Pro/APAC 12
meg voodoo 2 AGP...Life is good...as soon as I transfer all my settings over
I'll be whoopin Wonderboy's ass in no time.

As for the bugs...I haven't experienced anything serious. It may take a few
months but I'm sure Papy will get their patches together. After all...when
was the last time a game worked perfectly with all the hardware out there.

Have you ever thought or trying a Rendition card? IMHO it is a FAR superior
card. 3Dfx is better hyped by gamer mags and such, but I cant stand to use
mine, granted its a Voodoo, and the V2 cards are a little better from what I
can see. I'll probably always have both, but Rendition is the quality winner
hands down from what I've seen.

Guess thats my opinion as I stated, but I really dont see whats so great about
3dfx, when an 8meg rendition card will out perform a 12meg V2 card, whats the
point. On a K6-2 300 o/c to 350 with an 8meg Thriller I get about 4-5 fps less
than a P2 400 with a 12meg V2 card. Wheres the Advantage? plus the colors in
Rendition arent all smeared and arcadish looking like 3dfx.
 Again. Just my opinion

The 8 mb rendition cards are probably ok, but the "superiority" depends on
which game we are talkin about. In GLQuake, Quake2, probably Half Life and
so-on the V2 cards are about 40 percent faster than a Rendition.

GPL was probably made for Rendition (Red-line) and ported to Glide.

I guess thats where I'm missing the boat then. I dont Play Quake, or Q2, or
any of the first person shooters. but Like GPL may have catered to Rendition,
those were probably coded to more efficently make use of 3Dfx.
I do know that with Incoming I get better fps in Rendition, than with 3Dfx, but
again, thats a Voodoo 6 meg, not a V2.

I have both the 8meg Thriller, and the 8meg MonsterII in a 300 PII w/64meg ram....

I get 10 - 15 % more fps with the V2 card, especially at higher res.

I have always sworn by the Rendition cards. I now have a Thriller 8mb PCI with
a CL Voodoo2 12mb PCI.

After tinkering with the gamma settings on the v2, it is still about 4 to 5 fps
slower on GPL but looks MUCH better therefore makes up the difference in
gameplay.

In N99 its the same way.  The car colors are much more crisp.

The other thing was that I was not really happy with the 2d performance in the
Rendition card.  So, now I have pulled out the Thriller, put back in the
original Matrox Millineum II (8mb AGP) card and hooked up the V2 card with it
and I have since "forgotten" all about Rendition.

Now that most games are native to both formats, I'm a 3dfx man now.  Hey,
believe me, I went KICKING and SCREAMING but I am much better off now.  My 2d
is VERY VERY crisp and I am getting solid 3d performance.  My next move is to
SLI another 12mb V2 card and I'm done for a long while.

Just my .02 worth.

that's because you have a wimpy cpu and only a voodoo 1
get a PII and Voodoo 2, and see what the hype is all about.
it outperforms a rendition by far.
If not, we'd all be buying one!

Look, the voodoo 2 has TWIN rendering chips. Ya, 2 of them.
No comparison to Voodoo 1.

Did you even read the above statement? I have done a direct comparison in GPL
against a  P2 WITH a Voodoo2. In this case I still like Rendition better. But I
guess since Im not giving rave reviews about 3Dfx like the masses I'm not
entilted to my own opinion.  so sorry yes your royal highness' 3Dfx is the
ULTIMATE yess, yess, yess soooooo sorry I ever had an opinion. from now on I

I don't believe it, since i have a PII/333 with voodoo 2,
and get the maximum 37 fps. There's no way to get more, so
how can your thriller get more???
simple, you either don't know what your talking about, or
perhaps your PII is actually a Celeron???
so which is it?
As to your claims with the K6-2, sorry I totally don't
believe that one, since everyone knows this is a lame
processor. I think perhaps you can't afford a real PII, and
your buddy's celeron ain't up to the task either.

I wont waste my time on a response, other than to say dont knock it if you
havent tried it. as for AMD being inferior? I doubt you've tried that either.

<<<Have YOU tried the AMD K6-2...don't knock IT till you try it.>>>

build a celeron 450 system, but am still interested in seeing how the K6-2 400
performs, along with the K7, and the K6-3. I think AMD is on the virge of
giving Intel a rough go at things, especially if the remain with the super
socket 7 platform instead of making its customers buy a new motherboard every
year or two, but who knows........I for one dropped my crystal ball <G>
