SIM RACING NEWS - August

by John Wallac » Tue, 20 Aug 1996 04:00:00

Hi everyone,

First of all, sorry for the delay in issuing the August issue of Sim
Racing News. What can I say, my life got in the way of my sim-racing,
and I'll try not to let it happen again :)

So, the August issue is on the server.....but!! It's not quite finished
yet. One or two things need to be added which I'm waiting for from Marc,
and they'll be updated asap. the competition picture is also missing,
and will be added as soon as Sarah stops playing Quake....Sarah? :)

Tonight I added the FTP version and, by popular request, Sim News is
also available via Anonymous FTP. If you log on to "sneezy.dcn.ed.ac.uk"
as "anonymous" and your e-mail address as a password, you will find all
the issues available for download.

Well, I think I've covered everything - if there's anything else anyone
would like, a third-world dictatorship overthrown, their dishes washed
or their daughter taken out, I'll be found in my bed - I'm knackered.

Cheers!
John

02:47!! Get to bed, NOW! We need you in top condition.

If I send you some set-ups for Spa, will that give you more time for
SRN? <g>

Well, my back lawn is looking rather ragged..... Oh, and if you could
give me some tips to stop my slice that would help too <vbg>

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,
Richard

For the slice, I twist the club slightly to the right I believe, if that
doesn't work twist it to the left.  What I mean is to basically instead
of holding the club where the markers tell you to, move you thumb to the
left, and thus twisting it to the right.  Worked for me.  I can drive up
to 300+ yards and the ball just flies straight with a slight slice.  Now
comes the short game.

Goodluck,

Hi Richard,

Hey, only test drivers have to get up at the crack of dawn to prepare
the cars! I'll just be getting back to my hotel with this month's top
supermodel having grabbed pole position the day before ;)

Em....yes! I'm running 1:52s, but not enough track time to really test
and develop a setup. I'll need to get down to it and start some testing,
but no word from Jorg yet so I think he may still be on holiday. I think
he'll be pretty slow at first since he's had no track time - maybe we
should give him the test driver position? :)

No, trouble - leave the flamethrow...eh lawnmower out the back. As for
the slice, try closing your stance off slightly, or checking your swing
plane doesn't move out to in. Confirm hands aren't too open, and having
done all that GET OFF THE COURSE AND BACK TO THE TRACK!!!

Cheers!
John

Ah, that's what I like to see, the sort of scientific approach that I
usually try - "if it doesn't work when I do this, maybe it will work
if do exactly the opposite" <g>

300 yards! Where do you live, Mexaco City? Or was that surname really
Daly? The pros only average about 275 yards!

So say we all.

Richard

PS: Sorry for getting really off topic here, but maybe this sort of
thing is what we need to lighten up r.a.s these days <g>

Enjoy it whilst you can. There'll always be a hungry young (I think
that might exclude me though <g>) rookie trying to replace you <GG>

Well, I think I might have managed a whole lap without leaving the
tarmac. I'm actually concentrating on Adelaide at the moment for
another race - will be at Spa from Sunday.

Hey, hadn't thought of a flamethrower. Yesss, it might just work <g>.

Yep, tried that and the best I can manage is a controlled fade. Guess
I'll have to admit defeat and go for a lesson sometime.

Good point that. Having the club flying out of your hands does nothing
to improve the shot <g>

Will do, sir.

Cheers,
Richard
