RTBF television aired a great item on GPL league racing with the Virtual
Belgian Racing Team (http://www.racesimcentral.net/) in it's Autovision broadcast.
The VBRT guys really put some thought into it and get the point across on
what league racing and GPL is all about throughout the report. If you
understand French, the clip of the item is really worth downloading and
watching.

I often wonder why I chose German as my 2nd foreign language in school
over French, or Spanish

Nothing against Germans, but German is basically spoken only in Germany
and Austria, while a basic understanding of French or Spanish is very
useful traveling outside of Europe, Far East, Africa and Latin America

months time :)

Oh I've has use for it, for some reason I mostly drive German cars even
though I'm not very fond of German cars, south of the Alps is where they
make "real" cars :-), there and in Australia :-)), so it has come in
handy at times, but with 20/20 hindsight I wish I had taken French (you
can go skiing in France and Switzerland too, not that I do such things)
or Spanish, but there you go

I chose French and feel the same way you do, what a huge waste.  I hear as much
Spanish as I do English spoken here in the Washington DC area.

Yeah, living in the US I would probably have chosen Spanish over French,
however, I've always wanted to take a trip to Africa or the Far East, in
which case I believe French is a useful addition to English

Weil Du's sonst ja nich verstehen kannst, du Depp ey   ;)

Anyway, in the french/belgian broadcast they basically said what we'd be
saying to a tv reporter about GPL anyway ('difficult but cool, etc'). It
was pretty OK.

Ey, here in Holland - that's The Netherlands not some city in the US :)
- we blab it a bit too, not no mention switzerland 'n luxemburg 'n some
parts of France 'n Denmark and I think even uhm part of namibia
(southwest Africa in any case, being a former colony there  ;)

Besser nicht! Dein Grips koennte sich ja loesen und herausfallen ;)

Besides, at least Africans tend to speak a somewhat slower, usually very
understandable French, au contraire to the French themselves I have to
say, who tend to meld all the words in one rapid and usually nearly
incomprehensible staccato of 'ouaisjemishtuvaisclaquefisaiou'... or
something like that   ;)

Aber doch....

Yes, but most people in Europe under a certain age speak English, even
the French if you just point out to them that you're not actually
English :-), it's outside Europe that French or Spanish would come in
handy, unless of course I wanted to visit a former German colony in SW
Africa :-)

As for Holland, I tried with a bit of Norwegian down there once, and
although it took a while and several tries, the guy behind the bar
understood that I wanted another beer, guess it was the combination of
Norwegian and sign language that did it :-)

I dunno, when it comes to the French and English it seems they speak
mainly some form of Franglais  ;)

Norwegian?  You have to be kidding  ;)  The best we kan do is something
like 'Skol' (or was that 'sk?l'?) and that's about all Skandinavian
we're able to handle you know, better stick to English  ;)

(Actually, Danish is a little bit like Dutch in some ways, but given all
our germanic language origins I guess that's somewhat logical..)

Now listen arefully as I'll only say this once.....etc

Skol will get you drunk, yes :-)

And Danes understand Norwegian if they want to :-), see, it's all
connected in a very nice circumstantial sort of way
