Logitech wheel differences?

by me » Sat, 16 Oct 1999 04:00:00

I saw three Logictec wheels in the local store.
1. wingman force-yellow wheel $70
2. wingman force-black wheel $80 (very similar box to feedback wheel)
upgrade of #1 ?
3. wingmanforce feedback- red wheel $150
What are the differences and which of the two less expensive ones is
better ? I have N2 and may get N3..  Thanks

I'm in the same boat as Kevin - despite fiddling endlessly with core.ini in
GPL and the Logitech control panel, I just couldn't get the subtle effects
others were raving about in this newsgroup. Same thing in N3. All the
'gross' effects like hitting a wall, going over rumble strips, etc, were OK,
but I could never feel the tires working / letting go.

I wonder if there's enough of a unit-to-unit difference in manufacturing
that would account for this? I seem to recall several months ago someone
posting a message here about the different feel of multiple Logitech wheels
he was testing. (all the same Formula Force model)

Oh well, I'm still waiting for mine to return from the repair depot. Maybe
it'll come back and be spectacular!

A friend has the black wheel, and yes, the yellow is available in Canada.? I
think the difference is the USB.

Strange. I own a LWFF an it's absolutely awesome in GPL. I can clearly feel
the weight of the car, how much grip the front wheels have, if the rear gets
loose etc. Heck, not only different cars feel different, but different
setups do also. It can also clearly be felt, when you've (even very
slightly) damaged your suspension. For me, there is no way back to non-FF in
GPL (can't tell for N3 though). I'd constantly fall off the track without
it.
I don't know about unit-to-unit differences. If there are some, they seem to
be only about the amount of force the wheel generates. Some people think,
Alison Hine's setup is much too weak, others feel that it's absolutely OK
and Eric Cote's is much too strong. I don't know, I've settled somewhere in
between and it feels great for me.
