Stunts ROCKS!!

Ok, hands up all of you who still play that little gem "Stunts" on a
regular basis?

This is (I believe) the defining car sim of the '90s.  I have not played
a game since which gave me more enjoyment, and I doubt I ever will.

Stunts had the best physics model of any game at the time, and I reckon
it wasnt beaten until GP2 came along, and even then the car couldn't
flip onto its roof.

And who could forget the bugs in the game which made it so appealing to
play while drunk, such as, going over a jump at just the right speed,
and watching you car take off vertically at a very high speed.  Ah, the
memories.

Anyone got any good stunts replays or stories that they could post?  I'm
sure we'd all love to hear em.

-Jono Hill

P.S. Anyone know of a sequel to stunts?

: Ok, hands up all of you who still play that little gem "Stunts" on a

It's been transferred from three different computers of mine
since 1990!

True but since I've always enjoyed playing it with the keyboard,
I've always had trouble catching slides.  Hell of a lot better than TD3,
though!

Just the right speed?  All you need is 6000 rpm, 6th gear on the
March Indycar to take off!  Of course, there was also the Lancia bug that
let it go from 0-250 instantaneously...

: P.S. Anyone know of a sequel to stunts?

Three years ago I was able to talk to Don Mattrick about this.
All he could tell me was that EA was developing "McLaren at LeMans"
(which obviously never came to fruition), but no Stunts sequel planned...

I have some quite HILARIOUS replays for the game, but I think most of
them were from some tracks I made myself, so you may need to download
the tracks too (or do you know if you can play the replays without the
tracks?). Let me know by e-mail if you're interested to get the
replays and/or the tracks, and if you have some hilarious replays
yourself, I'd like to see them too.

Some examples of these replays I remember off the top of my head:

- hitting a concrete block at full speed, which made the car shoot up
what seemed like several miles high (the track seems so tiny from way
up ;-)), and the air flight with the car just went on and on and on
and on...

- two cars get stuck (one of the cars jumps on top of the other and
both stop), and suddenly the other one breaks loose at what seemed
like 500 mph and starts rotating wildly.

- going normally through a 'spin', the car suddenly starts going to
the wrong direction _upside down_ (on the track), and just as the
other car is trying to pass it, it starts rotating wildly and just
manages to crash into the other car. I still quite cannot understand
what happened in this incidence, even after watching the replay for
dozens of times and laughing my ass off every time. ;-)

- going through the same spin, the car suddenly just crashed in the
middle of the spin like to a concrete wall.

Not a sequel, but the only reason I enjoyed Whiplash 3Dfx (aka
Fatal Racing) so much was because it resembled Stunts! so much in many
ways. Too bad it didn't have a track editor though.

The super long rally track I built that couldn't be finished,
because the game would lock up after you had been driving for
10 minutes (the track occupied almost every square on the map).

The time I crashed in midair going over a jump with a computer
car, resulting in some nice spinning midair fireworks.

Heh memories....  I remember at high-school I was playing Stunts during PC
classes ha !...

I had a pretty good audience when I was timing my run over an elevated
bridge and crashing head to head with the AI when I was up in the air .  Heh
you could made some "Blues Brothers" type of crashes easily !...  Btw any
here thinks that it was like impossible to pass the horizontal loop. Not the
big "0" but the one you were going ahead and turning on your axis.

Any Stunts website on the Internet ??? Any one racing it with a wheel ??? I
have a old version that can only play with a keyboard. No sound just
Internal PC speakers.

That one was very easy, especially because you could easily cheat on
it. Just drive through it just past the cement block in the middle of
it, so you don't even have to do that "roll around the axis" trick
with that loop at all. I was actually very disappointed when I found
out you could simply drive through it that way, giving you extra time
against the computer driver, which always did the loop.

The version I still have supports at least PC speaker, Adlib
(Soundblaster is Adlib compatible) and Roland MT-32 compatibles.
It actually sounds pretty good with Roland, including the sound
effects, maybe except for the cheesy sounding "clunk" when you dropped
from hundreds of meters. ;-)
