'workaround' for inability to save in N2002

Someone posted a way to 'save' your game by putting it in hibernation mode a
while back, but that only works if you don't plan on using your computer for
anything til you wanna play again...

I dunno too much about this, but from what I can tell the latest NVIDIA
drivers come with a little control panel applet called "NVIDIA nView Desktop
Manager", and in this program you can set up virtual desktops, as well as
hotkeys to switch between the desktops.. and i've found that I can pause the
game, hit ctrl+alt+n (my hotkey for switching desktops), and i'll be back at
a clean desktop, with N2002 still running in the other 'desktop'. I can then
switch back to N2002 whenever I want..and it works perfectly...though I
haven't tested this long term at all.

This seems to work alright.. i notice it uses about 10% of CPU resources,
and like 80M of RAM... but it would work alright if you just wanna do some
word processing, or do some light web surfing..  Plus I only have a pIII-500
with 256 RAM... a higher end machine may be able to pull this off without
any performance hit.

if you play in full screen, just hit ALT+TAB to switch
to another program or your desktop.  doing that will
minimize the full screen application/game and allow
you to do other things including hibernate.

Except if you're running N2K2 in OpenGL

i think youre right.  in that case, you would have to
run it windowed in OGL.  my puter is rather slow so
i'm running D3D.  with OGL you could run a windowed
1024x768 screen size to allow the alt+tab switch.

OGL is quicker if you have a Geforce card on any  PC, if the card is tweaked
right that is ...

other than Doom II and Ms Fltsim, ive never done
much *** on the PC's i've owned.  my primary
use is internet and work.  i thought it was overkill
to buy a Nvidia TNT2 32meg card for this home
built machine a little while back but i didnt
anticipate being into NR2002 or its hardware
requirements.  my processor is also too slow for
this game and when i upgrade i'll go as high as
possible, which means a new mainboard.  i enjoy
the game but i dont relish the upgrade job ahead
of me. :\

Sorry Alan, this only works if you use D3D. Most of us *** simmers use
the faster (to us) OpenGL API and the alt-tab functionality does not work
with it...

run OGL windowed to your screen resolution.
