Help on sound?

by Rich » Mon, 05 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Just installed Microsofts CPR....and the DirectX sound drivers to get the
sound right in the game...works perfect..BUT, Now I have a problem with the
sound in Dos with N2, N1 and Indy2. Can't get the sound to work with any of
them without first running sound setup first...then start the game and
sound works fine. But have to do this everytime I start the games. This is
with a Aztech Sound Washington 16. I restored the old Aztech drivers and
sound works fine start after start in all the games again(in DOS). But then
CPR isn't right.
I would appreciate it if someone could give me some advice on the problem
and a possible fix.

Thanks in advance for any and all help!
Rich

I am not sure, but it sounds as if DirectX changed the IRQ, DMA or port
address of you soundcard.  If any of these got changed, then your older
configurations will be trying to access your sound card with addresses
that are incorrect.

Use Volset in DOS to see if your master volume or Wav volume is turned
off. Volset probably should be in your Aztech sound folder in the
Utility sub folder (possibly C:\Sound144\Utility )
