Any good Racing books out there?

Hello,

I am looking for any books on Indy car racing (Nascar OK too).  I went
to my local library, and all they had where about four books, and they
were all in the Juvenille section.  Even so, I learned a lot from
them.

One of them had a two person theme, with Al Unser Jr, giving the
author information about the cars, then talking him through some
actual laps on Michigan and a raod course.

The one *** book was pretty cool,  though it only talked about the
cars.  It went from the first Indy cars up through the present day.
It went into great detail on how the cars were improved over the
years.  Some of the details were pretty wild.  They said that in the
early days the cars would use GALLONS of oil per race due to faulty
gaskets and such.  You know were the oil ended up, making the track a
skating rink.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

Paul,

You might want to try INDY: SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS OF RACING'S GREATEST
SPECTACLE by Rich Taylor.  Lots of good color photos, interesting info
on car development, and coverage of personalities that move the sport.
ISBN 0-312-05447-5   It's about thirty-forty dollars (U.S.) but very
well worth it IMHO.

Sounds like you live in the wrong town...  The Watkins Glen, NY town
library has a whole section dedicated to auto racing -- if you are actually
into library research, this would be a good trip to make.  If you do it at
the right time of year, you can see a NASCAR or other race as well.
