A way to add a country in GPL?

by Borut Srebotni » Sun, 25 Oct 1998 04:00:00

Is there a way to add a country in Gpl or substitute one for another? I'm
from Slovenia ( Europe ) and I don't want to drive for Chile for the rest of
my driving carreer. I heard that there is a way to change graphics in GPL so
slovenian flag shouldn't be too hard to instert into the game.
If anyone knows the way or can find a way to do it, please let me know,
there are many drivers that are currently not driving for their countries!!

Hi Borut,

I have just looked at the player.ini file in the Players folder... There is a
field:

driverNationality = 11                          ; nationality of the driver

This would appear to be an index into a hardcoded table, used to extract the
name of the nation the player drives for.  Now I haven't found yet which file
the names of the countries are contained in (I haven't had this PC too long, &
don't have a hex-editor yet) but if you have a hex-editor, and can find the
right file, it should be a simple matter to change the name of any country to
the one you want to drive for.  This of course would involve a substitution,
meaning that any drivers who drove for the country you changed would now drive
for the new country.  I doubt it's possible to add an entirely new country.

If you decide to try this, PLEASE make a backup copy of any file you edit!!!
(I'm thinking it will be gpl.exe, though I'm probably wrong!).  That's faster
than re-installing, if you mess something up!

I hope this will help, if I get time this weekend I'll try doing it, and mail
you the results if I'm successful -
