So am I an idiot or what? (GPL)

I finally downloaded the 1.1 patch so that I could start racing online again
(GPL Spyboy has been REALLY empty for a while, and i thought that was the
issue).  Went to VROC and tried to get into a race room, and, after IE5
prompted me about accepting software from Alison Hine (which I gladly did
:-) ) my machine just sat there for nearly 2 hours.  No sign of a 'setup'
screen or anything else that was mentioned on the VROC site.  Eventually my
ISP cut me off.

Went back to GPL Spyboy, still only one race (with a high ping rate) to
choose from.  Uninstalled Spyboy.  Reinstalled.  Nothing different.  Tried
VROC again.  Same as above.

So what gives?  Am I just not doing something right?  Do I have to find a
league to join?  GPL itself works fine, but I want to race online!  :-)

Any advice would be appreciated.  Thanks.

Sounds to me like your using the old Spyboy. There is a new GSB2 beta and I
believe that 99% of the people are using it. It can be downloaded at
 http://gpl.gamestats.com/gsb/GSB2BetaSetup.exe  After installing that, patch
with the zip file  http://gpl.gamestats.com/gsb/GSB2BetaPatch.zip  That should
take care of that problem. Now, about IE5 and VROC? I would say make sure you
are joining the GPL 1.1 room. Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Bob

I don't think it's you Mark.  I think it's just that there's not many people
doing online racing right now compared to a few weeks ago due to the problems
with GPL 1.1   I'm not sure though, I haven't done online GPLing in a month or
so.

Around midnight EST last night there were about 80 people combined
in chat and races.  Of course, if you weren't there, I guess you
wouldn't be an authority...  :)

"But in a way, fear is a big part of racing, because if there was
nothing to be frightened of, and no limit, any fool could get into
a motor car and racing would not exist as a sport." -- Jim Clark

It's not you Mark, I have a similar problem.
I'm running Win98 +IE5 and , as you did, I clicked on Room 1.1 and it
downloads the Java applet. Then grant two software accepts, then it dies and
in the bottom task/menu bar of the new IE5 window is a message,
exception: java.lang.NullPointerException
I then have to reboot.
Similarly with Netscape 4.6 that just sits there also, but thankfully
doesn't lock up the machine.
Anyone else have any ideas?
I'm getting withdrawal symptoms not online racing.....

You need GPL Spyboy 2 as well (and a GSB2 patch!), both downloadable
from the VROC site.
