Wheel wiring question for the smart guys <G>

by Sean Higgin » Thu, 29 Oct 1998 04:00:00

I am having problems with my TSW wheel.  When I shift up the wheel jerks to
the right.  If I hold the up shift and the down shift it turns double as far
to the right.  When I step on the gas to the floor it also turns slightly to
the right.  When I use the brakes it turns slightly to the left.  I have it
setup for 3 axis.  Gas and Brake on seperate axis, and steering on a
different one too.    I've totally rewired it using wally's world schematics
but still.  I didn't notice this a few days ago, it just started doing all
this wierd stuff.   Even when I callibrate the wheel and pedals in GPL I
notce other axis' moving slightly when I'm calibrating a different one.
Could it be my sound card's game port?   I'm at a loss, andy help would be
greatly apprieciated.

Thanks in advance,

It may be a problem with your game port.  My "theory" is that
the power supply on the game port may be a bit overworked
when you press buttons or move your pedals.  A change in
current supplied could affect other axes on your controls.
As part of your re-wiring, did you put in potentiometers
with a higher resistance value?

You could try using a different game port and see if the
problem goes away.

Sounds like you have a bad steering pot. I replaced mine with TSW's
top of the line pot ($20?) and it works wonderful.

Try spraying contact cleaner (Radio Shack "TV Tuner Cleaner") NOT WD40
or silicone, in the small opening on the bottom of the pot. and move
the wheel as you turn the wheel. This might help for a while, but I'd
replace the pot asap.

I suggest you contact TSW, they are extremely helpful.

I did put a new pot in.  In fact all 3 pots are new.
