Early '98 (I think, anyway): I get the game. I'm using a MS Sidewinder
Non-FF. I suck.
After a few weeks I give up.

Early December '00: I drag it out again, this time with an Interact V3. I
practice for a     few days then, again, give in a shelve it for other
'games'.

Mid February '01: You know what they say, 3rd times the charm. I've been
punishing my V3 for 4 days now. I'm getting a MSFF tomorrow ;). Anyway, I
post my first GPLRank Tuesday morning. A 438, which puts me very near the
back. I ran my first full lap of the ring. Now, after among many other
things getting my 'Ring time down to a 10:22.65 I've posted a GPL rank of
260, which is I think something to be moderatly proud of. I'm using the
Cooper right now, although I'm expirementing with the Eagle at Spa and
Monza. If any of you know any other good car/track combos that are
realitivly easy to drive feel free to reply ;) Any, I just want to say to
any of you out there who are struggling with GPL, don't give up! Don't
however consider yourself a failure if you give up. It'll come callin you
back :)

Silverstone I find very easy to learn, as there are only a few braking
points and the track is very predictable.
Cooper to learn it (as always), then Eagle to go faster, finally Lotus
fastest.

I have found the Ferrari to be very nice to drive - it sounds and
feels fast, and the front end sticks very well - the last couple of
inches of wheel movement often get me out of trouble when I've
outbraked myself, when in any other car it would just slide or spin -
but my lap times in it are slow - worse than the Cooper.
What I would like is a pointer to a site that discusses the relative
merits of the cars - there's lots of track guides but cars...?

Currently battling the Ring - done some really impressive outlaps, but
always overcook it on the timed lap. Possible to move the pits back
before the start line???

Yes, thanks, that'll let me practice any one section of the Ring, but
I really wanted to carry on as I am - do one last lap before bed, but
my outlap is always better than my timed lap, so wanted to just move
the pits back a bit to get the outlap timed - ??

If you just start from the Antoniusbuche/Tiergarten, you just have
time to warm up the tires - there is only the long long straight
and a couple of turns - good time to concentrate on the lap to
come... Well, ... do not thrust me, my best is only 10:02.15 ... ;-/

no, start before that to warm your tires a bit before the first corner after
the REAL start/finish line....

And use Allison's setups: "Sweet Red Candy".
