My MOMO is busted. Going back to the "red" old Wingman.

I got this MOMO (brand new) from a friend a while ago.  It has been working.
For months I haven't played anything with my wheel because I was playing
with my Xbox.  Yesterday I bought an ATI 9800 pro and really want to get
back to PC *** again.  I just fired up the wheel but no light comes on.
The wheel is not "turned" on as if no power is getting through.  The adaptar
is warm though.  I only paid $25 for it.  :-)  This is the "black" version
with soft *** on the wheel.  I opened that sucker up and saw that it was
gear driven!!!!!!  Now, I want to get the old "red" cable-driven Wingman
from JustDeal.  My question is that would it run on WinXP?  I once had that
same wheel but forgot if it would work with a serial to USB converter????

Works fine on XP.  I just got one a week or so ago from www.overstock.com
for $28.99.  At the time they were having a $1 special on shipping so it was
a great deal for $30.

As far as I know, it will only work under USB, meaning you must use the
serial->USB converter.

And then when you find one, consider this ball bearing kit  as an upgrade
http://www.racesimcentral.net/

My conversion kit is on order.  I'll make a post when I receive it and get
it installed.

JustDeal does not have it in stock.  Do they just take orders and ship it 2
to 3 days later?

Indeed.  I couldn't believe ball bearings could make that much improvement.
Boy was I WRONG!  Alison Hine converted one of my old LWFFs (I gave the
spare to her) and it is a completely new experience.  Altho I preferred my
non-FF ECCI w. GPL, I find the FF info in N2003 so essential I can no longer
frive w/o it.  I had been driving w. my MOMO (black-rim) and TSW pedals and
loving it.  Now Jens' ball-bearing conversion (along w. ECCI's E3000 pedals)
has made a believer outta me.  Don't get a LWFF w/o the ball-bearing kit.

Good point for XP users.  The LWFF's serial connection just plain won't be
recognized.  If you get a used LWFF, make sure it includes the little
serial-to-USP dongle.  It's a two-bit part, but you ain't goin' nowhere w/o
it.

Dumb question... was the latest driver installed?  If it was, did you verify
that XP had correctly identified it?  The lights on the MOMO Racing won't
light up unless XP has properly detected it, and the driver is loaded.

Yup.  In fact, the Wingman software couldn't detect my wheel.  If I remember
correctly, the first light comes on when there is power.  The second light
turns on when it is detected by Windows.  In my case, none of the light was
on at all.

The first light (left one) comes on when the wheel's detected -and- has the
driver properly installed.  The second light comes on when force feedback is
active.  Was the wheel detected by Windows at all?  If not picked up
properly, it should at least appear in the Device Manager as a generic
HID-Compliant device.  Assuming it does, the next thing to do would be to
uninstall the device listed, and unplug the wheel from the USB port.  Then,
run the Wingman installer (most recent of course), and wait until it gets to
the part where it tries to detect the wheel.  That's when you can plug it
in.  This isn't alway necessary, but I've found that the wheel sometimes
isn't picked up properly if attached prior to installing the Wingman
software.  Also, I generally uninstall an old version prior to installing a
newer one.

Thanks.  Well, WinXP and Wingman can detect the wheel now, for some reasons,
BUT no lights come on and no force feedback.  :-(
