OT; Power problems

Hi all,
Can anyone give me some advice please.
I have a 900mhz Athlon. 256 RAM, GForce 2 graphics card. My power
supply is a 300w.
What I need to try and find out is why my computer just switches
itself off from time to time. It happened tonight when I was in a
Nascar 2002 race. The power would switch off, which leaves a blank
monitor. The power light on the tower will flash, so I push and hold
it in for 5 seconds or so and then the power is totally off. I re-boot
and go through scan disk etc and all is ok again, until it might
happen again at any time.
Is it possible that something is getting too hot? If so how can I
check it, or/and what is the workaround for this?
Any advice is most welcome.
thanks alot
Ben.

I would guess that you've fried your power supply or you are in the
process of frying it.  If your motherboard has some sort of
monitoring, check the voltages.

Almost sounds as if your PC is going into stand-by mode.  Might check your
power settings and make sure you have it set to always on.
