This isn't an ad, just wanted to let you know that if you ordered
a gift subscription for someone for the holidays, you probably
got screwed...
I placed an order for my brother-in-law out of the flyer I got in
my subscription copy of Racer. The little card said that a 1
year gift subscription was $29.
Well, I picked up the current issue in a bookstore thinking that
I would wrap that up and give it to him as a way to "announce"
his subscription...
As I flipped through the "newsstand copy", I saw another little
card offering gift subscriptions for $23.97! The regular
subscription rates advertised in this copy were also lower than
they were in the subscription copy...
I was ready to cancel both the gift subscription and my own
subscription I was so ticked... But, I called and complained
and they said they would credit my account with the difference
but I had to call back in a week as the order wasn't "in their
computer yet". I called back in a week, and this time they
said to call back "in mid-January" and they would extend my
own subscription to compensate. I wasn't too happy about
that and was planning on insisting on a $5.03 credit when I
called back.
It turns out my original request could not be processed
because whoever took my order dropped the last number of
my credit card. When I called to re-order, they again tried to
charge me $29, but I told them I would be paying $23.97.
They didn't give me any trouble about that, but the idea that
they are trying to***their subscribers still irks me... that's
why I'm alerting everyone I know who might have been screwed
to call them and demand your money back (hey, 5 bucks is 5
bucks...).
Their number is 1-800-999-9718. It's some sort of "subscription
service", so make sure you tell them you're calling to complain
about "Racer".
Good luck,
- Mike.
