Silly GP4-Question

by Trick Dac » Fri, 13 Jun 2003 05:40:47

Hi all !

I think the solution to my question will be soo simple it will give me red
cheeks...

Here I go :

I only seem to be able to shift down when I don't press the gas pedal.
From time to time I miss a turn because I pressed the down shift button 5
times, while I'm still in 3rd gear...

Is this a controller option ?
Can it be turned off ?

Thanx in advance all...

BTW : Give GP4 another try, now that our 3d-cards are more powerful compared
to when GP4 was released.
It's really pretty good (despite the numerous flaws)

Yes, it's called the gear/throttle link... a carry-over from the games'
Amiga origins and the then popular 1-button joystick.

I had it stick "on" as well, even though it was greyed out and read "off" in
the controller setup. I solved the problem by copying over a control set
from GP3.

Yes, the game has the power to impress for a while... then the numerous
idiosyncrasies and the fatally flawed force feedback begin to grate. It was
never a performance issue.

There's an option box in the controller setup screen that says link
gearchange to throttle (or something similar) uncheck the box.
This is how it worked in GP2, 3 and 3 2000 season so it's probably the same
in 4 ;)

Hi Ian,

As Jan said (previous reply) it's grayed out... :-(
Is there another way ?
Jan's solution (import it from GP3) is worth trying though... if everything
else fails

Thx for the reply, guys

Are you using a preset controller config or have you made a new one ?
If you select one of the presets I don't think you can change much. I don't
have any of the GPx series installed anymore so I can't check anything.

If it's the same as GP3 then I would say you're right on that Ian.
Presets hardly let you change anything.  Franky really needs to select a
user set, configure his own controller and then save it.

Silly GP4-Question

I've found it myself ! :-)
Apparently, it's a bug... or so I think...
It seems that GP4 is fooled.
I use Button1 on device A to shift up and Button2 on that same device to
downshift.
I've set them both to the same button (button1) which makes GP4 think the
gear/throttle HAS to be linked...
And then I've changed it into the original state again... which triggered  s
o m e t h i n g  deep inside GP4;-)

That did the trick...

Maybe it was a coincidence...
I don't know... it works ! :-)

Greetz & thanx all,

Franky

Not a coincidence... control setup in Crammond games has just grown counter
intuitive over time.

hey guys

glad to read of someone still playing GP4
I note that the AI are quite good at corners but they are
hopeless
at chasing me at the straights

wonder if there is any edit to even things out a bit
slow down their corners and speed up their straight line

There's a car seutp editor to change the AI setups, which may smooth
things for you.  Dunno about changing their actual lines, but I'd
imagine if you drop the wings and lengthen the gears it might even
things out some.
