I'm a new racer just getting started with N1 and haven't had much success
with the joystick. Can anyone tell me which is the best steering wheel/pedal
combo on the market today.
                                                    Thanks,

"Best" all depends on how much you are willing to spend. If you like
inexpensive, but solid, check out the GP1 by Thrustmaster. You can get
one for $29 with rebate at CompUSA. For a "mid-range" controller, go for
the Thompson Super Wheel at around $300+. For the maximum price, you can
get a ECCI for like $3000 - yes, that *is* $3k.

However some of us settle for the less expensive ECCI sets around $600.  Just
as robust and effective as the $3k model, with even a few setup options!

Last for ever, they do!

I own an F1 Sim Compact
I had tried quite a few wheels but none had the same realism to Formula 1
as did the F1 sim and Compact versions. The full F1 sim is good and well
made but I chose the compact because of its top cut steering wheel. My last
wheel was a full round one and got in the way of the screen. Both steering
wheels feel and behave the same but the peddles on the compact are less
well made than the F1.Although dont be put of this as they are more than
adequate than some people would be led to believe.
Support is also an issue as i use my compact for GP2 and it would make my
day if a windows utility was made available to enable the use of the
steering wheel buttons.
And finally although the wheels have a problem centering physically the car
stays perfectly straight.

TO: R.A.S. readers...

Regarding ECCI products, the maximum price for anything we have ever made is
$1595 U.S. for the special edition CDS5000. For most every user, the CDS2 and
CDS2R are the best answer. The CDS5000 is a very limited edition product that
incorporates very expensive features and visual enhancements (like polished
aluminum) that are not needed for maximum racing performance. Discounting the
*** CDS5000, the CDS2R is our top line system, with no compromises in any
area to perfomance...

clutch pedal, switched gas pedal capability, ball bearing suspended mechanism,
machined aluminum bearing blocks, leather wheel, the best potentiometers in the
industry, and so on... no compromises.

The CDS2 is currently $619 + S/H
The CDS2R is currently $739 + S/H

At this time, both products are in stock with no waiting required, and yes,
Visa and mastercard are accepted.

I apologize and stand corrected. I was going from memory. According to
Gamecenter, the CDS5000 currently runs $1395, not $3000 as I originally
mis-spoke. At any rate, I would expect a wheel at that price to at least
include state-of-the-art force feedback support.

And titanium, not lousy old brushed aluminum.
