Hyper Stimulator - what does it wortk with ?

by Peter J Walke » Fri, 15 Jan 1999 04:00:00

I am about to buy a Hyper Stimulator.

In order to make sure I get the most from it, I am also upgrading my pc.  At
the moment I am considering getting a Sound Blaster Live card, and a Voodoo
2 card.

Can anyone tell me if the Hyper Stimulator works with these, and if there
are any problems with them ?

The rep here in Australia will only say that the Hyper Stimulator will work
with a Sound Blaster 16, and a Diamond Banshee, and I would prefer to run
the more modern cards that will give better performance with some of the new
games.

Any advice appreciated.

The Hyperstimulator should work just fine with the Soundblaster Live
card. I'm running a Live here, and every stick or wheel I've tried with
it has worked flawlessly. the Hyperstimulator is essentially a high
quality wheel/'pedal unit in a very nice expensive wrapper, so it should
work with the Live too.

As far as whether it will work with a Voodoo2 card... if you're buying
any sort of proprietary large screen display with the Hyperstimulator,
you may run into compatibility issues. If you intend to use a regular
computer monitor, it won't matter what display card you use. If you go
with a big screen television as your display, then you'll need a video
card that provides TV-out functionality. There are a few Voodoo2 cards
that feature this, the Canopus Pure 3DII and the Miro Hiscores are two
that come to mind.

The hyperstimulator is essentially a big fancy joystick, with it's own
programmable buttons. You should not have any problems with any joystick
connector.

Hi Peter,

Yeehaaa

My system:

Abit BH6

330 RAM
CL Voodoo2 12
Thriller 3D 8MB PCI
Sound Blaster Live Value
Hyperstim Classic

Works great!

The Thriller card performs better as the Voodoo2 card.

Before the SB Live Value I had an Intel board with Gameport/Soundcard
onboard.(Yamaha). Worked great too, the SB Live is somewhat better.
(gameport I mean, the _sound_ is waaaay better with the SB Live)

Word of advise: Avoid the "butterfly" wheels, they "suck". Go for the
D wheels, or the leather classic round one.

Remco

BTW, thanks for the opportunity to brag about my system. :-)

I borrowed one of these for a trade show a couple of years ago. It'll work
with anything as it's just a normal wheel and pedal setup. Well, normal but
well constructed and pretty fun.

I didn't get the original message, sorry meiji.

I've a Hyperstimulator, Sound Blaster Live Value and Voodoo2 SLI. It
works like a charm.

meiji was replyign that simply the hyperstimualtor is a rather large Joystick,
with mappable buttons over keyboard keystrokes. It's not different to usign a
Joystick or Keyboard with any PC.

Just several times more expensive ;) and a shitload more fun.
